I'd hazard to say that I killed more people with a Kabar than 99.9% of the CCW holders have or ever will, with their sidearms...

There's not a damned thing wrong with bringing a knife to a gunfight...IF you know how to use it properly. (and have a bit of the element of surprise)

I'm an expert with steak, but armature when it comes to carving a turkey.
In any case, I am good enough with a knife that even if I couldn't have a fork, I wouldn't starve.

But...are you an amateur armature,

or a professional armature?

I don't think people realise just how quickly someone with a knife can cover ground and kill them. If I rush your average CCW holder from 10 yards I'd probably kill them before they have time to draw.

This. Remember the story where the cop shot the guy, 10 or so times, exiting his truck because he had a knife? That's why.

No. In fact, I usually cut my meat with a fork. :D

give me my old glock feldmesser and I'll disembowl a motherfucker (actually I won't, it's meant for stabbing and not cutting). I got quite proficient at throwing it in the army as well, wasn't part of our training but a wooden beam in the barracks would make tapping sounds at night so I used to toss my knife at it to make myself feel better.

also, pics missing...

I miss that knife (although mine was all black), I used to play with it for hours. it also worked as a bottle opener, so it was pretty much the ultimate multitool.

Much more comfortable with a long blade, but I'd guess I'd be a fair bit better than the average joe off the street if it came to it. I'd never intentionally engage with a knife however. Too much risk and you can run away. Knife fights are messy.

Also, I wouldn't recommend that you do so. This is because the most likely scenario in USA is that you will end up in a knife to gun fight, with your opponent having the gun. You'll lose if the other side knows how to aim, shoot, and keep distance well.

But hey, having a knife is better than having no knife if you're in a literal do or die.

Best solution for self protection is to have a CCW with high stopping power.

Knives have a definite fear factor for most people. They also require a knowledge of anatomy. I used to carry multiple knives both, infighting and throwing. Knives do have some defensive capabilities while guns do not. I would call myself proficient.

Bingo! Most if not all people know what it's like to be cut, most don't know what it feels like to be shot.

I see you've played knify spoony before.

I could take someone apart that was unarmed and hold my own against someone that doesn't know how to use one. I'd never want to get into a knife fight though almost impossible to avoid being cut if they have even the slightest clue.

Yeah that's the problem with a blade under 10", if you are getting close enough to do some damage they are close enough to dish it back, and even without skill they could easily cut you, and with any real training it will end badly for both participants.
