Sounds easy enough, but I'm not qualified for any decent paying jobs, so I'm left to compete with 16 year olds for retail jobs... and there are a lot of 16 year olds around here with 5-6000 students at the local highschool.

I went to an automotive college and graduated, but I can't follow that career path since I reinjured my knee part way through college. I can't stand that long or bend down under a car up on a rack on a regular basis... I use to have to ice my knee every night after class.

Other than that I have no formal education that would help me get a job.

I'm not dumb... at least I don't think so... well... I might be dumb, but I'm intelligent, if that makes sense. I know a little bit about a lot of things, more than the average person I'd say, but don't know enough about anything to get myself a job without a piece of paper that says I know what I know.

that is sad to hear.
why dont you try to get more education in some other field that you are interested in, that you would also be able to work in?

If I can get my ass back into school at 29, you can certainly do it at 22.

Are you getting disability?

Don't feel too bad... I know someone, he's 32, lives at home, went through Law School, passed the Bar in California and Nevada, and still doesn't have a job. He's a loser... stuck on crack and has 2 DUIs, had his Corvette sold through court order.

But staying home on your kick-ass computer isn't going to get you a job. What about going back to school? The world will always need tech geeks.

Can you not get medical attention via your parent's insurance (assuming they have med coverage)? If someone like Picabo Street can destroy a knee, rehab it, and race on the World Cup ski circuit again, surely you can get yours fixed up to where you can work on cars again, no?

I like the thought of getting a better education (I'd go to school for the rest of my life if there was any way I could make a living doing that), but I still have $12,000 left in student loans to repay as it is, so I can't really keep stacking on top of that.
I really only have myself to blame, I didn't work hard enough in high school to get any scholarships, because of my parents' income I didn't qualify for any grants (they made JUST enough so that I didn't qualify for any).
I'm having a hard time thinking of a field I could work in... I'm not a people person, so I'd probably get fired from a retail job for being rude or "standoffish." I'm the type of person who could sit contently in a 6x6 cubicle and do data entry for 10 hours a day... unfortunately, I can't find a job like that, and all those work from home data entry things are just scams.

Any ideas?

Couldn't you get a job at an AutoBarn or another auto parts store? Put some of that automotive experience to use. When there isn't a customer around, just sit down and rest your knee.

Edit: Or sign up with a temp. agency to get some office work, since you said you don't mind that.

I can't now... their current provider won't pay ANY of it they said. I saw a few specialists when it first injured it, and all of them said an artificial knee would be required, and then would have to be replaced about ever 15 years. I've recovered to the point so that it doesn't hurt constantly... only when I put weight on it for long periods of time, or anything that involves impact, like just walking long distances. My physical therapist was a former Marines recruiter and she worked with me for free for a month after we paid for the first visit cause of my financial situation.

No, I'm not a loser...but I don't think you are, either.

I'm sure you win at all those online games! 😉

Well I like you're attitude, I dont think you'd have too much trouble getting a job, and you seem intelligent. When you think about it, there lots of STUPID people in high paid, high power jos (Bush, anyone? lol) so once you find something you set youre heart on im sure youll be fine!

Try getting another student loan, you can't stop and live how you are if you want to become someone in your life. I would talk with a bank or someone and explain your situation and your ambition to do something beyond sitting at home with a loan on your head, they might agree and let you go to college, except when you get out you'd have two loans instead of one.

Also, have you thought about using what you've learned in a way that your condition allows you to? You could try opening up your own place and hiring some people to work there and you'd just oversee them and make sure everything is going fine. Either that, or try getting a job and saying you want be able to do the labor work, but you can do the business side of things.

LOL... I'm good, but not good enough. Not like that kid who made over $100k playing UT2k3.

I've never been the best at anything, but I'm decent at a lot of things, and I'm fine with that... but when's the last time an employer was looking for "decent help." 😀

I've always been really against using government aid unless one is about to be living under a bridge with a shopping cart.

Hey... anyone have a link to one of those tests that asks questions and then determines what type of career would suit you best?
