Poll: AnandTech front page speed

Guys, we're investigating some issues with the front page load speed of the main website (www.anandtech.com). If you could vote on the poll and reply to the thread what general location you are. I.e west coast, east coast. State/province if possible. Just an FYI, I'm working on a new CSS layout for the main site which will increase rendering time significantly.

West Coast, Bellevue WA, Verizon DSL, around 1-5s. Header categories render very quick - takes an age to render the main body table.

Just tried it and it appears the ZipZoomFly problem is back. But, it happens occationally. Not every time I try to load it.

Well, it froze for over 20 seconds with something labled "zipzoomfly" as loading in my status bar.

Yeah, but I've moved every last image and their entire ad to our servers so if it were then every other ad would be slow. Zip zoom is just the last thing loaded, we think its something else.

I live in TX, when I visit the main site it's always loads 1/2 way and then IE6 stops responding (I installed XP pro this morning. I normall use Slackware 9.1 with Mozilla and the review are VERY slow, and I am on Cable

Not sure never vist. www.forums.anandtech.com is the only important part. 😀
[Edit: It Loads fast than it pauses at some zipzoom thing than the page starts to load after like 8secs]
[Edit2: It kind of frooze the browser at the zipzoom.html for liek 6 sec than come back on]
[Edit3: After edit2 everything flys now on the load.]

In Utah now, as well as in Oklahoma, Korea, and Arizona previously, AnandTech is one the slowest loading web sites I regularly visit. It's certainly worth the wait, though. 🙂

Folks, clear you browser cache and try again with IE6.

Done that many times, no cure for me.

Bellsouth DSL Ft Lauderdale, Florida

LOL, I know. That was the point. The freeze happens consistantly with a clear cache. 🙂

I've tried recreating it here and no go, even with cache set to refresh every visit. I get the entire page in 3-4 seconds at most.

Hmm, it took about 7 seconds for the page to load completely. The first part of it (top ad and some other stuff) came in at about 3 seconds.

3000 down, 256 up, Adelphia Cable. South Florida.

I'm with everyone else that said it seems to freeze the web browser while it says it's loading some zip zoom fly ads.

It starts off loading quick, hits that and freezes for like 10 seconds, and then finishes the rest quickly.

This is on the west coast with 3Mbps cable.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it doesn't do it every single time. It's a sporadic thing, like maybe 1 out of every 3 or 4 loads.
