POLL: All I need is a quick yes or no, 512MB to 1GB.

Right now I have 512MB (2x256) Mushkin Black LvL II PC3500 w/ BH-5 running 210mhz @ 2.8v 2-2-2-11(can do 2-2-2-5 easy but I hear 11 is the sweet spot).

Should I stick with that or buy 1GB (2x512) Buffalo PC3200 w/ CH-5 and sell the LvL II? My proc maxes out at ~11x225 @ 1.9v and I just don't feel safe running it that high so I run it 11x210 @ 1.8v.

Gaming, 99% gaming.

I also host the LAN games when we have our little lan parties.

Also Schadenfroh, I'm not stupid. If you had read the post a little less quickly you would see that I would have either the Mushkin or the Buffalo but not both.

Btw- My I had forgotten to update my rigs in my sig. Current rig is the Silver Monkey, the Black Beast is in pieces but hopefully will be up and running again sometime soon.

I would go with a Gig.

The latest games use a lot of memory.

It also comes in handy, if you do encoding etc.

Definitely get one gig. 512mb may have been enough for yesterday's games, but most current games can and will definitely take advantage of all that memory. Get the one gig, and you'll almost be certain that memory won't be the bottleneck in your system for awhile.

Sorry but why run at 11x210? Instead of just 11x200? Does the 10Mhz actually make that much of a difference.

Oops should be 110Mhz sorry

It's an addiction! Who cares if it makes a difference or not?😎

because the 10 mhz fsb = 110 mhz for the cpu.

512 is ok for now, IMO

That's what I thought too until some games I betaing started eating into the page file...

which ones?

LANing BattleField w/ the Desert Combat mod, Lineage II Beta, Battlefield Vietnam, Ground Control 2 Beta, and I was looking at getting Far Cry which a lot of people have been saying runs better on a gig.

It never hurts to have more ram. 🙂

Yeah but does it make a noticeable difference? How much does the benchmarks improve? If just a few percentages better I wouldn't consider it much of a difference.
