As far as memory, XP does not take more resources then 2k. My XP off a boot only takes 63.7 megs of memory, I can tweak it as low as 50megs by disableing certain un-needed services.

2k on the other hand, takes about 78 i think.. Im pretty sure its over 75megs. With tweaks, I cant quite get it as low as XP is by default.

As for CPU time, XP does take a bit more to animate things like the shadows behind menus, but I usually disable that anyway. I personally think it looks better without it.

My vote goes to XP.

ssn was just an example. the point is that nobody gets pissed about things like that. but for some reason they get really indignant when they have to make 1-2 extra mouse clicks. god forbid.

The drop of blood was an example also. . . the point was that activation does not deter piracy while it does inconvenience customers.

I use them all. I have to. I do repairs on all OS's including Linux RH and Mandrake.

By far, XP has most potential for stability and cleanliness provided your hardware is compatible. Aside from that, go W2K. Leave out all the rest, and if your a hobbiest, dual boot a Linux flavor of your choice, just to play with. Very few people use Linux as anything other than a webserver or firewall.

I voted XP. I really like it and it does about everything I could want and it does it fast.

>>>cleanliness???<<<

I'm referencing the desktop. It isn't cluttered up like 98 or W2K with all the crap like "my computer" and "Network Neighborhood" and such.

bloatware? yes. But so what? Todays PC's are DDR rammed up and speeding at 1.5+ GHZ on that 32 bit buss and doing an outstanding job with IRQ sharing now. Ram is cheap, storage is cheap as hell, now is the time to buy or build a blazing machine to use all this good stuff. In fact, I think I'll do just that now!;)

At work I deal with XP every day. It is fine if you have no choice in OS.

At home I run Win98SE on my puters. I have far fewer problems and it is much easier to network.

Windows XP is selling well. Nevermind most copies are sold along with computer systems. Nevermind consumers aren't given any options except for Windows XP. But it's selling well and that's great.

I use XP and it's a good OS.

I have 98SE and W2K Pro dual boot and I love it.

I tried XP (a couple of times) and it is pleasant to the eye but it is just too
hard to manuver around in.

I was very hesitant about going to W2K but since I have, I am completely pleased with it.

I dual boot between the two. There are some old DOS games that refuse to run in any type of compatability mode in XP (OMF :D). However, I also like the stability of XP.

XP confused me when i looked at it
I am so used to Win2000, I've been using that for a while, and I like it.

BTW
I don't know much about software, and I only like 2000 because i figured out how to do most stuff with it. :)

I was dual booting 98SE and XP Pro. I now run just XP. After using 98SE for so long it was/is difficult to manuver thru XP but I find it much more stable and I feel it is easier to network. The only problem I have experienced are Run Time Errors, whatever that is.

Sorry dude, I've got to say it. If you don't like it, use another OS. $85 isn't really a whole lot to pay if you look at all that an OS does.

well i agree with you. but many things inconvenience customers, yet are not protested nearly as loudly as this was/is.
