Never, OS/2 is astoundingly stable, my 80486 interim machine is running fine 24/7/365. I don't expect the laptop to freeze either, but that will have to wait until I actually get my hands on the *#@%ing thing.

too many to count using Win2k. it seemed like everytime I started a heavy d/l, win2k would give me the BSOD.

however, i found out that it was my fault. i installed ZoneAlarm on this machine, and after i got rid of that software, win2k has been substantially stable.

Not too many lockups on win98 or linux either.

And I have to reboot, my dhcp lease expires in 3 days, so....

Mine will never ever lock up during normal use but for some reason I often get a windows protection error before I restart/shutdown if my computer has been on for more than a day or two. Running winme with a 900 t-bird at 1gig and a k7t pro2a.

About 3 times per week, but I am certain that it is my own fault. It only happens when I am experimenting with different things.

Curious: In Windows ME it feels like you need a reboot to "speed" things up after a while, is this true with Win2k?

Why do you say it's your fault? It's Microsoft's fault for not making an OS that doesn't go down cause of some program, and letting the program do whatever it did to cause the BSOD's..

As for crashes, Win2k has spontaneously rebooted about 4 times or so on me, and I use Beta Voodoo3 drivers, with a Asus motherboard with now-defective L2 cache (the L2 is disabled now, duh..), with a K6-2 300 and 64MB PC133. I've had Win2k installed for about 4 months now, so I guess that's one system crash a month, average.. it was about the same with win98, I never had as many problems with 98 as some of you guys seem to :)

Linux23,

You don't have to reboot to renew your IP.

Start -> Run -> ipconfig /renew

Back to the topic, I run Win2k and I only crash when I do something stupid.

you're absolutely right superbaby. never put that thought into perspective. however, i still have a habbit of rebooting once per night, to free up some memory. i only have 128mb, waiting for ddr to drop so i can upgrade.:D

It freezes 65% of the time when I print to my USB HP 930C. Thinking I should use the USB hub AC adapter but no outlets left :(

I got a variety running Win98SE, WinME, Win2K & WinNT4. The only time it freezes is when I attempt to do something weird. I do reboot once a week just to be safe.

Less than once a week on my Intel/Soyo system (PIII-550@733) and about once a week on my AMD/Epox (Duron 600@900) system. Both running original Win98/98Lite Pro Micro.

My comp has ophthamic protection system overide mechanism with artificial intelligence (I call it..OPSOMWAI).

For those who is not familiar with this wonderful modern technology, it's a system that monitors your activity on backgroud, and when it thinks that you had too much for the day, it freezes itself, frustrating user, and forcing me to do something else in the end.

Moreover, I never have to manually shut down the system.. except simple push on the power button.

Cheers.

Running Win2K most of the time (Win98 occasionally for stubborn oldie but goodie games, or crap new games), rock solid, no crashes until I do anything with drivers.

It was quite stable until I upgraded my dead CDRW (twice RMA'ed JVC crap) to a Plextor 12x10x32 :) and upgraded Adaptec Easy CD creator 3.5 to the patched 4.02, and installed Media Player 7 (that I didn't install earlier due to the Win2K BSOD bug with Adaptec EZCD 3.5), and decided to install another 128MB PC133 DIMM last Sunday. I Wish I didn't try to install so many things at once.

Everything was BSODing left and right until I deleted Adaptec EZ CD creator and DirectCD and reinstalled them. Not sure about the memory yet, but it has Infineon memory chips on it (Kingston ValueRAM for very cheap).

So again...stable so far! I run the machine 24x7.

Win2K, rarely, maybe once a month, hafta reboot once in a while though cause the system gets a bit too loaded after a while though.

WinME, maybe once a week, but I have to restart it very often due to memory problems, screwed up TCP/IP stack etc.

Linux, not once so far, 4 years and counting, aside from having reinstalled it a few times, due to HD crashes etc.
