(Poll) 64MB GeForce 2 GTS vs. 64MB GeForce 4 MX440 8X, which would be faster

considering that the GeForce 4 MX line is essentially a revamped GF2 core (DX7), the MX440-8x should be at least, if not faster, than a GeForce 2 Ultra. So yes, it should be hands down faster than the GTS

Here's some proof

I had a 32MB Geforce 2 GTS-V and upgraded to a Geforce 4 MX-440 64Mb, did a 3Dmark 2001 benchmark before and after the upgrade, and there was an approximate 50% difference.

GF2 GTS

NSR: Lacking from competition.

800MP Pixel Fillrate
1.6MT Texel Fillrate
5.3GB Memory Bandwidth

GF4 MX440

Nview: Lacking from competition.

540MP Pixel Fillrate
1.1MT Texel Fillrate
6.4GB Memory Bandwidth

Even with all the goodness of the Geforce2, the 440 is a GTS killer.

The interesting thing about those benchies that leads to a question is, what other than 8x seperates the 4x and 8x versions of the G4 440MX that results in the 8X being as much as 15fps faster in some situations?

THe 440MX-8x is clocked faster that's the difference not the 8x agp.
275/512 for the 8x agp version. The 4x agp is 270/400

Yep, they revamped the clock speeds on the mx440 much like they did with the ti4200 when they moved from 4x to 8x.
