As noted in my signature I'm trying to sell my Gamecube package. [/CHEAP PLUG!]

The original plan was to use the money toward a center channel speaker & a subwoofer (Sony SA-WM250 - $100) for my HT system (making it 5.1). Now I have the option of getting a 18.1" Dell UltraSharp 1800FP LCD for my GC + $100.

Relevant factors: Moving into a one-bedroom apartment in a couple weeks and I'm currently using a 17" CRT. I watch a lot of TV & movies & play a lot of video games (on PC & PS2). I already bought the center speaker.

Edit: To avoid confusion, the LCD is for the PC and the sub is for the HT.

Edit 2: It's a done deal. I went with the LCD.

LCD, because you may not be able to get rid of your GC for that much money in the future, so dump it while you can.

If the monitor is not "needed" (as in, your current 17" doesn't have any major problems) then the choice is clear, subwoofer. If your 17" monitor has some major flaws or problems, only then would I go for the monitor.

There aren't any problems with it, but I have been planning to get an LCD somewhere down the road. Someone suggested I go without the sub, especially since I hope to get a decent HT setup in a couple years (and I suppose it could be a problem with the neighbors in such an apartment). On the other hand, getting the LCD will actually cost me more money...and I'm cheap! :p

Wait... are you watching TV on your monitor? That could change everything.

Nope, I have a 27" Sansui TV in my HT...fits nicely in the "budget" setup.

Ahh.. Subs + Apt. don't mix. Go with the LCD.

My downstairs neighbor has a sub attached to his stereo and last night at 4am I finally went down to tell him (7th visit) that the cops would be dealing with it from now on.

But I *am* the cops. :p

It probably wouldn't please my neighbors too much if I got the sub, though...

That sub is crap, so I'm forced to say lcd.

Even for a budget setup?

11-4 in favor of the LCD sofar.
Yeah, I'm afaid so. My brother in law has it, and he's sorry he got it. It has very little low end, and he curses everytime he visits me. Get the screen now, and start saving until you get at least $300 for the sub. With that you can get a used HSU sub that will serve you for years.

Thanks for the advice.

14-4 in favor of the LCD...it looks like the people have spoken. Now if only my wallet would quit speaking so I could snag the $100 from it.
