Smaller! I have a Dell 700m (12" widescreen) and LOVE the size of it. When I was in school it was so easy to just toss it in my bag like a book. I used it far more than I ever thought I would. Same thing with taking it on vacations and traveling.

It's nice for the size, but full size keyboards are better. The 700M has a really shoddy battery ife though.

the dell inspiron 8200 my brother sold a while back had the absolute best screen ive ever seen - a nice 15" that did 1600x1200 natively. awesome, totally awesome.

but i wouldnt care which screen i get as long as i get my resolution (1400x1050 in your case).

I have no problem at all with the 90%-size keyboard. I'm a rather quick typer and it only took me about a week to get used to it. As for the battery life, I have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe the regular battery is small or something, but I have two of the extended batteries and each gives me about 4:45 of runtime. It's incredible.

As I stated in the notebooks thread, the difference in how bulky the 14" vs 15" is huge. I own a 15" T42 and have used a 14" T43 & 15" T60. The 14" just feels very light, almost like a heavy spiral notebook; compared to the 15", which just feels more bulky. Pulling the one of these out in a classroom, say on a cramped desk, you will prefer the 14".

The FlexView does consume a fair amount more power than the non-IPS screens.

Can you go somewhere and try to see the difference and feel the size?

I wish... I live in LA, but I don't know of any places where I can view these models.

I was going to say, whichver has better batter life, all else equal. For traveling around campus, I'd probably go with the smaller size as well, except that at 1400x1050 that extra inch of screen size might be worth it if it doesn't hurt battery too much.

My T30 sucks on battery performance if you have the display at any usable brightness. They've improved since then (Centrino stuff), so can't comment on T60 performance overall.
