The stock intel HSF is actually pretty good. When I lapped the HSF and my CPU and put on some good quality thermal paste, my temps were around 36 C idle and 47 C load. Putting a 120mm fan in the side panel brought my temps down to 31 C idle and 43 load. Load temps were measured by running Prime 95 for an hour until temps stabilized.

these are my best, stable results...

1. 2568 MHz =160.5x16 @ +10% (~1.61v) & 5:4 RAM = DDR401
2. Abit BG7 (845G chipset)
3. Samsung 256mb pc2700 RAM @ 2.8v (2.5/6/3/3 timings)
4. stock heatsink/fan (~52C idle, up to 65C when Prime95 torture testing)
5. Sisoft Sandra 2002 RAM scores: 3109/3116

note: I can run @ 2648=165.5x16 & DDR414, but I haven't thoroughly Prime96 torture tested this speed yet, so I didn't list it above.

Abit reports 10c higher than actual. I have seen mine hit 70c before but heat sink was just warm not hot.

The actual temperature reading should be somewhere near the middle of the core...not the heatsink..so it is possible that your chip is running at 70C...

The readings at boot are 50c in the bios so I am not worried about it.
Cpu 1.6@2480 - 1.65v.
512mb Corsair XMS 3200 @ DDR412 2.5,3,6,3.
Sandra membenches 3100 and change.

Abit BD7II. I probably have the same temps as you have it just reports the temps wrong. Take a look at the people running the bd7,it7 or any of the newer boards and they all have higher than normal temps reported. BTW it was about 85f in my office when I went into the BIOS to check the temps.

Finally got around to hacking the bios...
so now i am running at DDR400
New Sandra Mem Score 3010/3009
PCMark2002 Mem 6173

Anyone stumbled onto FSB 166 yet?

thugI really don't know why mine is slower...maybe 2.5-3-3-7 setting has to do with it...i will do more testing later...i only ran it once...

1.6A @ 2560 Mhz
Core : 1.65V
Mem : True Samsung 512MB PC2700 @ 2.65V 1:1 ratio (160MHz FSB)

Relapped the alpha and dropped my temps down to 60C Max load (CPU Burn, Prime95, ti 4400 o/c'd 300/650, looping 3Dmark). 45C idle. Probably will get a bit cooler when the AS3 settles in.

Will run this config for hours w/o a problem.

For now my max speed is 2608 @ 1.7v, but as I need more case fans (my case temp is 38c currently) I won't try to take it to a higher vcore before I get that down.

Specs:
P4 1.6A (duh!)
Stock Intel hsf
Asus P4B533-E
256Mb PC2100 Kingston ValueRam (crappy, plan to get a 512Mb Samsung pc2700 module)
Enermax Whisper 431W psu
5 hd's (240Gb in all, they're part of the reason for the high case-temps)
GF3 Ti200

i finally got my 1.6 A up to 2133 , running stable. well i got a new 1.6 A actually from some deal and tried it out. i'm at 2133 with 1.44 volts (thats what the bios says, i have a weak power supply) and it ran prime95 for 8 hours so i've pronounced it stable.

Average oc is 2.35GHz or 47% - of course these are kinda preliminary results and people that originally posted a particular oc can probably oc higher now...

lookin4dlz ~ actually, no.

most of us are overclocking lower now.
most if not all of the p4b266 users switched over to the lower fsb 3:4 memory ratio hack.
others just plain realized using more than 1.75v is suicidal.

even i voted for 175fsb/2800mhz - but now im only running at 167fsb/2672mhz.
