Police Burrito

A 16-year-old boy working at a Santa Maria fast-food outlet was arrested in suspicion of deliberately poisoning burritos ordered by a California Highway Patrol officer, police said Monday.

The teen was arrested Friday afternoon, more than three weeks after the Nov 10 incident at an eatery on North Bradley road. After purchasing his meal that day, the officer took several bites from a burrito, felt a burning sensation and noticed a strange order emanating from the food. He alerted the restaurant and got the manager's help investigating the incident.

A criminal investigation began after the Santa Maria Police department was contacted several days later. Detectives learned the teen had intentionally placed a small amount of a cleaning compound in the officer's burritos, thinking it would make him sick, police said. He told detectives he was mad at police because he had a bad experience with an officer that same day.

The Santa Maria High School student, whose name was not released because of his age, was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer:disgust:

I notice the , but common sense says that you really shouldn't try and piss off a police officer, since they can and will fvck you.

Sorry, the disgusted icon was directed at the kid, not at the charge.

Ah ok. I thought you were questioning how deadly a weapon a burrito can be.

Wow. The worst I ever did was when I worked at Carl's Jr. and this one cop used to come through the Drive Thru every night for a broccoli & cheese potato. I filled it up with so much melted cheese that the minute he opened the container it HAD to dump all over him... 😀

felony assault with a deadly weapon? that seems excessive.

It does seem to be a bit excessive, but to be fair, cleaning product is a bit more dangerous to put in someone's food than, say, a bunch of salt, or a laxative.

The kid probably already has a record...I can't imagine they'd send him to Juvenile for just this.

He tried to poison a cop. I'm sure if there was a greater amount of chemical he could've been charged with attempted murder or manslaughter, depending on the outcome.

he could have beat the cop half to death with a pipe or shot him with a gun, and gotten the same charge. doesn't seem very fair.
