Just turned on the local weather. The weather chick came on, said "you're screwed", dropped the mike and walked off.

I'd LOVE 40's. Wife told me on Wednesday that she was out of washer fluid in the car we just bought. Went to town yesterday to get some. Popped the hood, started putting it in, wtf? There wasn't room for any - maybe 1/4 cup went in. Friggin idiots at the garage topped it off with watered down crap that froze solid. But, except for an hour or so yesterday, we haven't broken 20 in quite a while. Farm = lots of water outdoors and in unheated buildings = I get to refill water quite frequently. I have piles of ice building up.

How are the goats handling the cold?

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any reason you don't have heated water feeders specifically to avoid this?

The news said this has been the coldest winter in Ontario in 20 years. Just getting back to normal if you ask me after a couple mild, dry years.

Its been cold and dry, which is exactly what the farmers almanac and meteorologists predicted for us.

So I'm not really too angry.

I find it odd how everyone and the media seems to be acting like this is out of the ordinary. We've been spoiled with warmer winters in the past few years, we're just getting a more normal one this year. If it stays fairly normal, we have another month of extreme cold then it will start to warm up throughout March and April and the real big winter storms will start. Might get a heat wave to tease us that summer is early, but there will be more storms. Then in May it will start to get warm, and other than one or two more winter storms, it will be for real this time. June, most of the snow should be gone.

I should be a meteorologist. Screw a 14 day forecast that's probably going to be wrong, I just gave you a 5 month forecast. :p

I think we are supposed to hit -24 tonight in Minneapolis. We are working on month #3 of at or below zero weather. This is the coldest winter in the history of my life. Seriously every day since around thanksgiving as been in the single digits or low teens. A lot of it lately has been at or below zero for highs.

I just tried to go out for a smoke. The wind is nuts and I can't tell if its snowing or just the wind turning things up.

Looks like I'm leaving plenty early in the morning.

Not enough amps to the barn. Put in a new breaker panel, but I haven't gotten around to the new supply line. Plus, goats chew on wires. They don't seem to mind the cold. But, it was 32 when I went to bed, and temps are now plunging, should be 8 below by tonight. 2 hour school delay, so heading to an Amish sawmill in a minute to get some wood to keep the damn things inside when the wind chill is 30 below

30% chance of rain Wednesday. High 65, low 49.
I hoped they seed the clouds, we need the water.

Fair enough. Though you should put that lineman son of yours to work; the least he can do is take care of some electrical work for his dear old dad.;)

A balmy -4°F right now. Wind chills at -30°F and kid's school is cancelled yet again. This has to be the 3rd or 4th day due to cold. They cancelled 2 days at the beginning of the year due to it being too hot. Poor thing will be in school through July at this rate.

Tomorrow will have wind chills at -45°F/C. Bet school is closed then as well.

The schools closing because of cold weather is weird to me. I grew up in the same area that my kids go to school and I can't ever remember it being closed because of "cold". Hell, even the local University is closing because of it being cold. We've had three "cold" days already this year. Snow & Ice days I understand. But cold days? Eh.

I'm in Coastal Carolina and the forecast for tomorrow is currently calling for snow, from 6-10". This town will shut down if that's the case.
