Just turned on the local weather. The weather chick came on, said "you're screwed", dropped the mike and walked off.

that would be awesome

I'm here to report that it was mid-70s and sunny over the weekend around here, but disappointed that I woke up to a chilly 53 degrees this morning.

Brrrrrr.

That's retarded.

yeah, that makes no sense.

school closings are generally determined on a district by district basis, and I think if any one bus route is inaccessible, then those schools within those routes will close. Or something like that.

The kids in town still had to show up for school....damn i remember my mom driving me to school when the buses weren't running just to get me out of the house.

I can't believe my parent's endangered my life like that for years making me wait for the school bus outside by myself!

How long does it take to get frostbite when the wind chill is negatives, e.g. -30?

And school already cancelled for tomorrow. I'll have my wife work from home and I'll go into the office. Getting a little cabin fever sitting here at home with a 6 year old. hell, I'm having her bake oatmeal cookies to keep her busy and away from the tv.

Well technically they're still "closed" in the sense that there wont be any classes. When I used to walk to school if there was a snow day I could get in the building and all the teachers and staff were there, but I did not have to stay, I'd have the choice to stay and go in the computer lab or something, or just go back home. Bus cancellations were the most awesome thing as a kid. Free day off! That's the only thing I miss about school, really... not having to go. :p

In college there were no snow days though. If by chance the city buses would get canceled (don't think that ever happens) it was your responsibility to find a way there and be to class on time. Same deal with work, there's no such thing as snow days. Hence why the teachers would still be in the school, they HAD to be there. When there's an ongoing storm it's up to you to get up earlier so you can get the car out of the driveway, shovel the snow bank if the plow passed, and get to work on time. Those mornings always suck. I'm already miserable enough getting up early, don't feel like getting up even earlier, and shoveling.

no, they have full school days, classes and everything. I don't think I have experienced a full school closed due to snow day yet.

I am in the 10 minute range and even a short bus stop walk can take 5 minutes therefore it is too dangerous for kids to be outside.

LOL, when I first read that, I thought you were talking about a bus stop for the short bus :D

we had a snow day when i was in college was pretty funny actually. started snowing on Wed, entire state was pretty much declared a state of emergency. Town had a driving ban and all that. We went to the store at like midnight and got passed by 2 4 wheelers and some snowmobiles on the way back, driving down the main road.

We had class on thurs but 90% were cancled because profs could not get to the school. The cpl that i had that walked in just said take the day off and have fun. Friday the school was ofically closed. they got in some shit because they didnt close the day before during the "state of emergency"

first time the school has ofically cancled since three mile island almost blew up

Yep that's what happened to us in IL yesterday. 45 degrees at 3:00PM. By 11:00PM it was 0 degrees and 45MPH winds and blowing snow. It actually wasn't as cold as they were predicting today. So that's a plus. Was supposed to be -15 this morning. I'm not sure it actually got sub zero.

Bunch of wussies. We had to walk to school in -40, windchills in the -50s. (uphill both ways, too :awe:)

They never cancelled school once in all the years I went.

I'm in Connecticut and it feels like it's dropped at least 20* in the last hour or two. It was like spring around noontime and now it's back to the deep freeze already.

I gotta find a pond, ice skates, and some free time.

2 hour delay for us today - snow blowing so bad a couple of the towns pulled their trucks off the roads for a while until it lightened up. So, I went to the sawmill & got some lumber. Time to build a 12x8 foot wall outside (rough cut lumber - 1x10's), with a sub-zero wind chill. :)
