Pokemon GO idiots

I saw lots of these guys today on my daily bike ride to the beer store. It was kinda disturbing to say the least.

Niantic is an Alphabet company (f.k.a Google, Inc.). There's no need to worry, they already know everything about you 😀

Actually they are independent. They started in the Google portfolio, but were spun-off and now it is an independent entity.

Just made it to level 5, joined Team Valor & got my first potion at a pokestop 🙂

My son (11) got me to install it over the weekend. We were taking some visiting family members shopping around town, so perfect timing (park at the mall, etc. and off we go walking around). That was kind of fun to see all kinds of people playing. We actually met a few couples who were playing, from different age groups (20s, 30s, 40s).

Fired the app up this morning at work and found two pokestops within reach from my desk. That's right, I didn't even have to move my butt to get the free stuff. Just spin the wheels every five minutes. This almost feels like cheating 😀

How are the Pokemon placed in space? Is it done by a human, or are they random, so that they could end up in someone's living room or in the middle of a lake?

Yup...
Pokemon Go has full access to your Google account

Here are a couple of excerpts from the Google help page about what this means:

When you grant full account access, the application can see and modify nearly all information in your Google Account

This “Full account access” privilege should only be granted to applications you fully trust, and which are installed on your personal computer, phone, or tablet.

Let me be clear - Pokemon Go and Niantic can now:

Read all your email
Send email as you
Access all your Google drive documents (including deleting them)
Look at your search history and your Maps navigation history
Access any private photos

It's just another form of collection, which people of all ages have done for generations: stamps, coins, guns, dolls, movie paraphernalia, books, art, fine china, sports cards, bottle caps, beer coasters, antiques, the list goes on.

Ok I finally read up a bit on this... this is actually a pretty neat concept... but oh man I can totally see idiots trying to play it while driving and stuff. lol. There's going to be so many accidents and stuff and people are going to blame the game, when it's really the users being stupid. I imagine PDs are going to have extra units out just to check for people trying to play while driving. Extra ticket revenue. 😛 Maybe

Pokemon? Didn't that already happen back in like 1996?

Another case where an old idea is brought back because no one thinks of new shit these days. I can't say I blame them. Why think when you don't have to?

It never died. It's just that the mass craze went away. But, the games made enough money to keep on making new ones.

I'm surprised that it is back into an impactful craze territory again.

We should make a Deathrace 2000 clone. "Road kill five kids playing Pokemon Go to unlock Combine attachment."

Call it "FPS Go". 😀 "Vehicular manslaughter!" *You've just unlocked an achievement. Drive to nearest outdoor's store to claim*. You get there, and you get a discount on a hunting riffle or something.

So...

How long until Nintendo is sued?

People are already crying "gun control" and "racism" over the women who shot the kid. Idiots.

Oh I know, I'm just bitching on a Monday morning. Don't mind me.

You could also argue movies in this way. Another Ghostbusters? Another Ninja Turtles? Why? They will -never- be better than the original, yet somehow they make millions. I guess I just answered my own question.

Except that they never stopped making Pokemon sequels and spin-offs and they never stopped being successful. This is just the latest.

So... can you sell Pokemon for real money?

Can I start-up a Chinese Pokemon farming business?

It's not released in Canada yet. You bike across the border for beer?

I hope you don't believe that BS.

*facepalm*

Just what about that article convinced you that it was real?

They collected crowd-sourced data to see where people cross paths so that they can identify common/public areas. That's why so many Pokemon gyms are at churches.

^So, yes then. Maybe I should get in on this -- I cleared over $250 on the Diablo III auction house.

They've been covering the game today on the 24/7 news channel here -- Canada. Reporter said it wasn't released but she also admitted to having played it and was interviewing people who did on the street.

Some people be the haxxor3zing.

Everyone is playing it at my Uni. So lame even the lecturers are playing it...
