From the pokemon go idiots thread :

Yep.

I run two buildings , both breweries , both technically secure locations.(not like Gov't buildings or anything but bonded liquor producing areas)

As it turns out , our 'Taproom' location not only has pokemon , but is a pokestop too....We have staff playing it.

-----

So here's my issue ;

When ( and I don't mean if) random off the street people come in looking for pokemons , and ask to go into areas not normally public , I have mixed feelings.

Part of me wants to say no (aka get the fuck outta here) , but part of me thinks this might be a good marketing idea.We charge for tours , mebbie I should cross-market tours with pokemon searches ?

Thoughts ?

Seems simple. $100 gets you 10 minutes of catching Pokemons. $110 gets you a beer while you're doing it. That'll keep out the riffraff poor folks.

Essentially the game overlays on real life maps. When you walk/drive/whatever around, as the map changes so do the pokes you have to catch. Its GPS based. First game really of its kind. As far as popularity, in less than a week it has overtaken Candy Crush as the most downloaded game.

And no, nothing is off limits. You can read stories of people wandering through places like the Arlington Cemetery...the Holocaust museum...etc. Word has it theres a "gym" (a big target rich area in the game) in the middle of the Pentagon. Oh, also the Vatican.

...Ingress?

I might just surround my home with these. http://www.jammerfromchina.com/ LOL

I've always wondered what one of those would look like. Looks just as illegal as I imagined it would as well.

I was visiting my brothers house last night and his kids wanted to go to a park to play this game, the whole time I was there watching people walk by playing the game, I was thinking how much it reminded me of that movie The Happening. Where droves of people would just off themselves in weird ways.

Yeah, I would like to have just a GPS jammer. But even those are illegal and given the fact I think the fine is upwards of 30 grand and/or a prison sentence I'll pass.

Believe me. If enough people complain about lack of a GPS signal the FCC will investigate and find your transmitter.

I love this game. I've lost 7 pounds since I started playing.

But I can understand why so many in AT would despise it...you actually have to leave your house and venture outside.

Shit... last time I played the game I fell through a glass ceiling. ;)

Wait till they come out with World Of Warcraft Go. Production levels will diminish, the gross national product will fall, dogs making love to cats. Just utter chaos!

Do you know anything about RF technology? A) The FCC has the resources, quite frankly an endless supply of resources all payed for by Jo taxpayer. B) It's easy to nab a transmitter interfering with a cellphone whether that be GPS jamming or cell signal jamming. The GPS signal is roughly between 1200 and 1500 MHz. A GPS jammer will transmit on that frequency/s.

Two examples:

http://www.pillsburylaw.com/publications/fcc-enforcement-gps-jammer-caught-tv-consent-decree

http://www.techtimes.com/articles/1...fine-from-fcc-for-using-cell-phone-jammer.htm

Even those so-called pesky untrackable Numbers stations can be located. Believe you me.

The rule of thumb for any RF transmission is that if it goes through the air it can be grabbed, analyzed, deciphered and/or interrogated. I have software to do just this. It's not cheap. Perhaps a Sat signal or a burst transmission around the noise floor would be about the only ah heck of a TX I can think of. It's why the Navy, etc use a Sat link. You don't give away your location.

Anyways...

Just seen a couple walking their dog on the sidewalk in front of the house and it looked like dude was searching for a Pokemon. This makes the second time I've seen people stop in front of my house now ever since this game came out. Odd hour to be out too. It was about a quarter to 2 AM!

Yes, I know about RF....it's my day job. If you don't run the thing 24-7 it's a non issue. That's my only point.

Yea , I'm thinking jamming signals is probably poor etiquette..

-------

I'm back from the mountains , I have an update :

-So our taproom facility , has 1 pokemon , 1 pokestop. This is where we do tours , so cross marketing is easy.A tour and 2 beer is only 25 $ so I can't charge 110$ as much as I'd like to.heheh..but I think I might have the staff there setup a 'lure' in the back area...

-our main facility has nothing , which is awesome .

-Here's where it gets weird ; A couple blocks away from us is another brewery (a competitor) .....They apparently have a pokegym,2 pokestops, etc....I'm thinking we ( as a company ) should go pwn their gym.

-------

P.s.
I do not and will not play this game....It's interesting tho !!

I like walking/jogging when I get outta work, since I need to get rid of some energy after sitting in an office all day.

I still run into a lot of friendly people playing Pokemon Go, pretty much every day now. Sure a couple of these people have been nerds, but most seem to be normal people, often out for nice night walks with their spouse. Based on what I saw of players at major parks, I'd say most players I see range between 25-35, but it seems pretty popular with kids as well.

Players are pretty polite with each other. They generally try to help each other, and are easy to make smalltalk with. It's like if you're at a concert or something, where it's easy to initiate conversation, because you already have a common interest.

I don't think I've met a single rude player. The closest I got, was where I saw a particularly prideful guy, a little upset that he couldn't hold a gym at a busy park. Some other players politely explained to him that he didn't need to hold the gym for 21 hours to claim the defender bonus, and he ended up thanking the other players for explaining it to him.

I think the funniest thing I saw, was a grown man, probably in his late 30s or early 40s, actually have a little bit of tears in his eyes, because he was so happy to finally catch a Pikachu. I thought it was a little pathetic, until I overheard him with his son, who was a little 4 year old boy who apparently loves Pikachu, and realized he was just trying to help his kid out.

I'm surprised some are even spawning in private places, is it that they are accessible somewhere public but people are just idiots? Like it might be on the street in FRONT of the building and they're trying to get into from behind or vise versa. If they just walk around they might be able to get it. I would assume that the algorithm would be smart enough to only pick public locations, right?

I'm out of the loop here... how does this work.
The creators of this game set the locations for these pokemons? Or do these just pop up randomly somehow? Is any place off limits?

The locations are actually based off of the creator's previous app, which would help direct you to interesting sites near you. (Essentially, an augmented reality site-seeing app.)

Here's an interesting video about Pokemon Go! and its inception:
