From the pokemon go idiots thread :

this made it worse, we have had people ask if they can come into a secure building to catch one. i don't think ive ever wanted to punch someone in the face that badly before

Yep.

I run two buildings , both breweries , both technically secure locations.(not like Gov't buildings or anything but bonded liquor producing areas)

As it turns out , our 'Taproom' location not only has pokemon , but is a pokestop too....We have staff playing it.

-----

So here's my issue ;

When ( and I don't mean if) random off the street people come in looking for pokemons , and ask to go into areas not normally public , I have mixed feelings.

Part of me wants to say no (aka get the fuck outta here) , but part of me thinks this might be a good marketing idea.We charge for tours , mebbie I should cross-market tours with pokemon searches ?

Thoughts ?

I hope there's a pokestop in my backyard with ultra rare pokemons spawning in it, so I can catch the idiots that are trying to catch them. Either that or charge exorbitant prices for them to catch air out of my backyard. Come on Nintendo, throw me a friggin' bone here.

I can't even believe this shit.

In just the past two days, fire dispatchers received about 100 calls from app users saying they couldn’t get into certain fire stations because they were closed when firefighters were responding to calls, said fire Inspector Richard Licon.

‘They couldn’t get in and called 911, asking if they could gain access,” he said.

At the request of fire dispatchers, the Fire Department released a tweet asking “Pokemon” users not to call 911 for gaming questions.

LACounty Fire PIO ✔ @LACoFDPIO
*ATTENTION* Please do not dial 911 or impact fire stations regarding POKEMON GO. 911 is for EMERGENCIES ONLY.

The Covina Police Department on Thursday received two calls from “Pokemon Go” players, asking if they could visit the jail because it was a “target-rich environment,” Sgt. Trevor Gaumer said.

And to one request, Gaumer responded: “Absolutely not.”

Attention Pokemon Go players.....you may NOT access our jail. Please do not call and inquire. @CovinaPD

I would have let them in, after they sign a release form... Man, think of the fun that reality PPV show can have, and the revenues...

I'm out of the loop here... how does this work.
The creators of this game set the locations for these pokemons? Or do these just pop up randomly somehow? Is any place off limits?

I can't even

An Oregon man playing “Pokemon Go” was so determined to “catch ’em all” that he continued on with the game even after he was stabbed earlier this week, he told a Portland-area television station.

Michael Baker, 21, was catching Pokemon characters in Forest Grove around 1 a.m. Monday when he saw another man walking in the area and approached him, according to KPTV.

“I saw him go by and asked if he was playing ‘Pokemon Go.’ He was like ‘what?’ I guess he wanted to battle because he came up at me with a knife,” Baker told the station.

After being stabbed, Baker decided against going to the hospital immediately because he wanted to continue hunting for Pokemon, and to get food and drink.

“Right after I was stabbed, I continued my mission to Plaid Pantry for my mission for chips and beer,” Baker said. “I basically risked my life.”

The victim made it to the convenience store, where he bought the items and looked for Pokemon, according to a police report obtained by local newspaper The Oregonian.

He initially refused treatment when police arrived at the scene, electing to keep on playing the game instead, the report stated.

Baker eventually received medical attention for the wound, which resulted in eight stitches. He told the station that while he intends to be more cautious when playing the popular smartphone app in the future, he will continue his mission to be the best “Pokemon Go” player.

“It’s important to me. I’ve got to basically catch them all,” he said.

His attacker has not been arrested, police told the KPTV.

Essentially the game overlays on real life maps. When you walk/drive/whatever around, as the map changes so do the pokes you have to catch. Its GPS based. First game really of its kind. As far as popularity, in less than a week it has overtaken Candy Crush as the most downloaded game.

And no, nothing is off limits. You can read stories of people wandering through places like the Arlington Cemetery...the Holocaust museum...etc. Word has it theres a "gym" (a big target rich area in the game) in the middle of the Pentagon. Oh, also the Vatican.

so basically there's no real reason to collect them because there is no rarities of them? seems pretty pointless, and still doesn't get people to quit looking at their phones.

apparently businesses can pay the developers to make their store a hot spot or whatever they call it. I was told it's $1 for 30 minutes, that didn't sound right to me at all, way too cheap. But then I thought about how there will be thousands of businesses across the country potentially doing this all day long. JESUS brilliant idea.

Question about the game. Are the nearby Pokémon available the same for each person? For example if I had my phone out and someone next to me had theirs out would we both see Pokémon X? If one of us captured it then it would disappear from the other persons map?

I've not heard this at all. I know you can suggest to the developers through their website to add your spot.

Yes, can see the same Pokemon. Both people would be able to catch the same Pokemon.

Yes, if one person sees a wild Pokemon everyone in the area will and multiple players can catch it, but they will often be of different levels.

Pokemon Go 101:

PokeStops are placed at various locations of interest. You can visit them every 5 minutes and collect various resources to play the game. Pokeballs are one of the most important because that is what you throw at a wild Pokemon to capture them.

Pokemon Gyms are more rare and where you use your strongest Pokemon to fight the current gym owners for control. There are three teams: Mystic (blue), Instinct (yellow) and Valor (red). If your team already controls the gym you can usually leave a Pokemon of your own to bolster it's defenses. You get the Pokemon back if it is defeated and kicked out. You are rewarded every 21? hours if your Pokemon manages to stay at the gym that long.

Wild Pokemon randomly show up in various areas, and you know basically how far you are from them but not the direction, so you can do the hot/cold method of searching for them. There are ~150 Pokemon types of Pokemon to find, but some are very rare.

Items in the game help better attract wild Pokemon to your location, and you can even plant a module at a PokeStop to make it a wild Pokemon magnet. This works for every player in the area, which is often the cause of a Pokemon geekfest crowd forming.

Players gain exp and levels while playing, allowing them to train their Pokemon to higher levels using various in game resources. You can also evolve most Pokemon into stronger forms with sufficient resources.

Pokemon eggs are often found at PokeStops, and they have distance requirements (2k/5k/10k) that you have to walk with them in an incubator to hatch. You only get credit for walking, anything more than about ~5mph and no credit.

IMHO, getting folks who play video games out of the house and walking is a net benefit for society, even if some of the stupider ones kill themselves in the process.

You're off by a bit. What it is, is that there's in game item called a Lure, which can be attached to Pokestops. They last for 30 minutes, and they greatly increase the Pokemon spawn rate around the Pokestop.

Someone did the math, and it works out to around a dollar an hour to buy Lures and keep a Pokestop Lured the entire time. If you're a business, this could very well be to your benefit, as people are going to want to hang around a Pokestop with a Lure given the benefits it provides.

All of this is automatic, based on the game rules and the pre-determined Pokestop locations. None of it involves/requires contacting the developers.

Once upon a time pervs used chat rooms, now they will use "lures."

To catch a Pokemon Lure predator.
