Korg recently blew out their remaining stock of the Korg Opsix SE Platinum limited edition (guess it really was limited) at $700 (launched at $2400, generally running $1500-1800 now). So I have the first and probably only pro-level synth I'll ever have, and it's a pleasure to play. As a bonus it came with VSTs for some classic electric piano modelers (gotta use the laptop for them of course). Came with a nice case too, would normally run something like $150-200 itself. The colored lighting is functional, it can tell you what parameters are mapped at a glance.
It's basically a modern version of the classic Yamaha DX7 from the 80s, but with additional tricks and functionality. The brain is apparently a Raspberry Pi CM4.

Why do people follow me on bandcamp? I don't know why people follow me anywhere cause I'm boring, but bandcamp is especially weird. I have no interaction with the site aside from buying music. Every once in awhile I get an email saying I got a new follower. I guess this is what it's like to be famous :^D

I believe I've disabled those emails. I think people just see that someone else is into the same weird shit they're into and click the profile to see what other overlap you have or what else you decide to buy. Apparently my profile has 34 "plays".

Been having dishwasher issues, trying to suss it out over time. After this last load, I noticed there was an odd-looking bit on the heating element. Thought maybe it was some kind of deposit, only to find it certainly seems to have burned up a bit there, and in fact seems to be entirely broken at that spot. Ordered an OEM replacement, guess I get to look forward to a bit of creative cursing in the future (the replacement process looks fairly straight-forward, but I've done enough of these projects to have an expectation...)

A pretty lengthy blog post on the decline of deviance. It basically says people are getting too conservative, and it's making everything boring. Never gave it much thought, but he provides decent evidence. Interesting if anyone feels like taking the time to read it.

Hm, I feel like I've been doing my part, but maybe I need to start a cult to really make a difference.

It had a link to this, which I think I've seen before:

One thing that particularly struck me is the "number of writers per track", and my sheer disgust when I found out the number of songwriters credited on Machine Gun Kelly & Jelly Roll's "Lonely Road", given that it's an "interpolation" of one of popular music's most enduring and world-wide popular songs, "Country Roads". Ten fucking songwriters for a song that was already written and already a hit (and four producers on top of that!)
MGK claimed: "We worked on 'Lonely Road' for 2 years, 8 different studios, 4 different countries, changed the key 4 times".

Listening to AI music on youtube again. The (presumably)AI created animations are pleasing to look at, but they have some problems. I notice a lot of them have no clear demarcation between inside and outside. Imagine sitting on this couch trying to read. The workers apparently haven't gotten around to putting glass in the windows, and you're huddled around a candle trying to stay warm, cause god knows, that fireplace is doing fuck all to warm the room. All the heat is going up the chimney.

"Christ, I'm so fucking cold... :shiver:" :^D

Looks like the year of the linux desktop is here! At least it is on mastodon :^D

It's actually pretty interesting how low the windows score is.

Had a full day power outage a couple weeks ago, and another eight hour one today, finally ordered a couple big chungus power stations. Apparently the interstate was shut down/detoured for a while in the early, early morning because there was a transmission line downed on it.

What happens when you put a heating pad under your shoulder and fall asleep when it says never to use while sleeping or under you?

You catch on fire. Remember those "spontaneous combustion" stories that were making the rounds in the 70s? Turns out it was from people sleeping with heating pads.

I had an electric blanket when I was young. You'd get hot spots if you pinched a wire. Never had smoke or anything, but it could be a real problem if someone were disabled, and couldn't correct the situation.

We had a house fire because of a electric blanket when i was a kid. We slept in the basement and had an electric blanket to keep us warm. 3 kids in one full size bed. Prob forgot to turn it off in the morning amd came home to a house full of smoke. Mostly just a mattress fire i guess, but man everything in the house was nasty smelling for years.

Everybody is like 'u gotta have patience.'

No shit there Dumbledore. But you see, IF I had even a noticeable amount, I wouldn't need most of the drugs I take. Sorry "meds" - I don't do drugs. Na Uh. 🙄
