Yeah, that's like not even 10%

The more time I spend out there, the less time I want to spend out there.

Unscheduled trip to the dentist today for a broken tooth. Wasn't sure if they could even get me in without an appointment, but they did. While waiting, they have a TV tuned to one of the rebuild this house for 10 million dollars channels. Now bear in mind, I hate TV to begin with, but there's nothing else to do while waiting to see how much pain they're going to cause. Looking at the freakshow people and the freakshow stuff they do to poor little innocent houses was about to make be attack the TV with a hatchet.

But then they called me in and told me they weren't going to cause pain today, but would wait to see how much if any of the cost will be covered by insurance and whether or not they're going to cause pain in my wallet as well as my mouth.

I'm so glad my dentist doesn't have a TV in their waiting room. They just have music playing. It's not great music, but I'll take it over TV.

Tried something newe. I usually stick to products I'm familiar with, creature of habit I guess.

These were on sale for just under $4.00, don't remember the exact price.

Basically just a tart type pastry. OK, nothing wrong. Tastes good, but for another buck or two, I could get a full sized pie with much more product.

A muted TV isn't a bad thing either. Then you can keep your mind busy reading the lips and making up stuff they are saying to each other.

Just be grateful that you CAN go out. If your friendly healthcare worker heard half the things you lament, you could end up being locked up forever in some institution for the mentally brilliant, for fear that you could be a hazard to yourself as well as society (most gun nutters/suicide bombers are anti-social crazies).

I started using biometric unlocking on my phone after years of using pin only. It made it easier for work when I have to frequently lock/unlock. Well, sometimes it still requires my pin "For added security". I wonder what the attack vector is for someone that has my fingerprint, but not my pin, and do I really care at that point?

I don't really mind the pattern locking on Android. It's sorta fun - connect the dots. I can't believe I still have a 6 y.o. living in my head.

What I do mind is that I have the phone set to recognize this location as safe so in theory, I shouldn't have to ever unlock when I'm at home. There's probably some setting I'm missing. I'm pretty sure I have the GPS feature set to more general precision than something more specific so that could be the issue.

Fortunately I'm back on the old lappie with external monitor and kbm so I'm not at all dependent on the phone like I was a few months ago. But I have gottten in the habit of using the phone for some things like the weather but I'm weening myself away. In the car, I love my Tomtom navigator so that's not an issue either.

BTW, if you're a retired old fart like moi and rarely even look at your phone, check out tello. I get a 2 gig plan with unlimited text for about 10 bucks/month.

The only scenario I can think of is if law enforcement wants to examine your phone, IIRC they're allowed to make you use biometric methods to unlock it, but not passwords. I figure if I get pulled over I can just send a text to someone and then power the phone off, so it requires the code after powering on.

My boss always whines about chiggers. We go in the same place, he says he got chiggers, and I feel nothing. I tell him it's probably just his fleas :^D

I think I only got into chiggers once. I'm not 100% sure what it was, but it felt like I got swarmed with needles. Machines were grubbing out ground, getting ready for a road, and a nest of whatever got upset, and they were all over me. Sucked, whatever they were.

Not yellowjackets. C'mon dude. I've spent my life outside. I know what a wasp looks like. From my distant memory, the bugs were about 2mm long, and almost nothing in width. They bit instantly.

"They are most numerous in early summer when grass, weeds, and other vegetation are heaviest. In their larval stage, they attach to various animals, including humans, and feed on skin, often causing itching. These relatives of ticks are nearly microscopic, measuring 400 µm (1/60 of an inch) and have a chrome-orange hue."

Those must be the adults because the ones that do the damage can't be seen at all.

They don't fly or attack in groups. They just crawl on you and burrow their mouthparts in, then inject an enzyme that dissolves tissue.

I lived in a shitty part of town for a brief period, and you couldn't walk barefoot in the grass during summer. Something would chew the shit out of your ankles, and I never did see what it was. Miserable...

Chiggers are the worst! burrows under your skin, itches like crazy, small infections. Ugh!

Had em in Missouri, never had em on the West Coast or desert southwest.

Every month this year (so far), I've used less power than the same month in any previous year since I've been keeping records (2016).
