PNY GTX 770 Low Performance?

I know this question has been asked a lot, I have spent countless hours looking through the threads and trying to find an answer. Essentially I am wondering if this is adequate performance for a GTX 770? To be honest I kind of expected more.

So this is the benchmark score I received on Unigine Heaven:
http://postimg.org/image/eomub7m15/

And this was a high one, the lowest was like 913. I've seen guys on youtube with the same graphics card and less of a system getting around 1200 to 1400 pts on this benchmark with the same exact settings.

My system Specs:
Pny Nividia Geforce GTX 770 2 gig at 1046 mhz Gpu clock; Memory 1753 mhz
Intel i7 950 overclocked to 3.7 ghz
16 gig ddr3 ram
700 watt PSU Coolermaster
WIndows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Sony Bravia KDL 60ex500 for Display

I've already tried drive sweeper and reinstalling the driver for another problem I had earlier and it still seems the performance is subpar. I also notice what feels like choppiness or lag during gameplay on certain games which is really annoying. Games such as Dead Island Riptide, Crysis 3 with the graphics just on normal at 720p.

Anybody had issues like this? If this is all the video card is capable of I wish I kept my Radeon 6970 which honestly I felt performed a lot better. I defiantly didn't have the choppiness during gameplay that I am having now with this card. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Also wanted to add that I just did a Passmark benchmark and received only a 4372.1. When I campared the score is says that this card should be in the 6,200 range.

What does throttling mean? Um well with stock clocks it never exceeded 77 Celsius then I over clocked it which is what gave me the score in the picture buy quite a bit like I think I pushed it to 1300 mhz gpu clock and it still never broke over 77 Celsius.

Unigene is affected by complete system specs, it is very much affected by memory speed, CPU type, generation and speed, so on and so forth. If you had a prior ATI card, the uninstall util for AMD cards generally doesn't remove all registry entries so you probably have some lingering driver files from your previous card....

I would try using some type of driver sweeper program, that could help.

Throttling means that the GPU gets too hot and slows itself down. Make sure that you're actually getting the clock speed you expect to get. I'm guessing that it stays at 77C max because that's the temp target, which means that your overclock might not actually be doing anything.

He said that he tried driver sweeper.

If it's 77C it isn't throttling. The default temp target is higher. Also 1300mhz is not a possible clockspeed with the GK104 due to the 13mhz bins, so what type of monitoring program are you using. You should use EVGA precision or MSI afterburner. Unigene does not report proper clockspeeds. Afterburner or Precision is what you need.

Either way you should do driver sweepers to get your lingering ATI drivers removed.

Yea I did do a driver sweep, I guess I can do it again just to be sure. I was using MSI afterburner I'm not to familiar with the program or overclocking videocards so I just put it back to factory specs. But I moved the clock speeds up and verified it with gpu-z and it said that the clocks where higher. How to you check if its throttling or not?

So I did a driver sweep and reinstalled the latest drivers which made no difference. I also notice when bench marking in unigine heaven 4.0 I get a lot of screen tearing whether vsync, adaptive vsync is on or off. Also I it does the same screen tearing for like the beginning video of ghosts and such. In game I don't really notice it besides the inconsistent stuttering and choppiness. I just feel theres somethign wrong because I watch other guys videos on youtube with the gtx 770 and there videos looks so smooth. Also I keep running the benchmark and the scores keep going down my latest score was 903? I'm not very impressed with this card so I think I might just return it for something else.

I'm getting the PNY 770 that boosts to 1202, this is kind of worrying. I hope you get it solved.

Just ran unigine heaven 4.0 again down to 863 pts. I believe my video card is failing. The score seems like it keeps going down and down. And I'm not changing any settings.

Yeah I looked at the scores on the link I guess they don't seem to out of line with my scores. Especially seeing how my card is not overclocked. I was able to get a good video of the beginning of ghosts of what its doing. I will upload it to youtube and post the link so you guys can see what you think. It's just taking forever to upload.

It's your CPU. Regardless of what anybody tells you. A haswell i7 with a good board and fast ram is guaranteed to solve your problem.

OP admaster: Have you tried resetting your CPU to stock yet?
Test the game out with it at stock frequency.
Some video cards don't play nice with overclocked CPUs when you first install them.

Issue is officially resolved! Just scored 1250 pts on Unigine Heaven 4.0 completely maxed out, on factory clock speeds on both video card and cpu. I figured it out never gonna believe what it was!

lol I wanted to see if anybody would respond. Well I pulled the card out got it all ready to return and I put an old video card back in. I used it for the night and thought man this video card really sucks, it was a 7900 gs I had laying around and I was thinking I don't want to go a couple of weeks with out a decent video card. So I decided to give the gtx 770 one last try so I reseated it into the motherboard and its been running great every since. Runs everything on high smooth as butter and the annoying screen tearing has reduced greatly. Heck on heaven 4.0 the average fps was 45-50 maxxed out and thats not even overclocking anything.

So essentially pulling the video card and re seating it resolved the issue. And I suppose it is possible that one of the power connections wasn't completely fastened but when I pulled it everything seemed connected find.

Thanks all for the help!

Another update well after running the card for a couple of days and then running the Unigine Heaven 4.0 benchmark my score dropped down to 900 pts again and I have not changed anything since last time. Also I have been noticing major screen tearing issues on certain games such as Crysis 3 and Assassin Creed Black Flag to the point that its next to impossible to play the game because its so annoying. Thats with vsync on and off, also with d3d overdrive on and it still does it know matter what. And I'm pretty sure its not my display because certain games seem to run fine. Also I have been noticing flickering of textures and shadows quite frequently also. I have concluded that this card is faulty and if its not I am not impressed with it and I don't want it either way so I am sending it back for a refund and I suppose I will go back to radeon. So dissapointed.

Aw, that sucks. I'm an AMD guy myself, but I still want to say not to give up on nvidia. The 770 has enough performance in to max all my games at 60 fps, so I actually want to undervolting. I don't remember my haven score, but I think it was around 1200 with it overclocked to 1306 and running 1280x1024, so it doesn't seem too far off. Go with an RMA, but don't close your mind!

Yea I suppose your right years ago I had a 8800 gt I ran for 3-4 years with no problems so I suppose its not nividia, just my luck. And I really want a nividia card because I think adaptive vsync is a godsend. At least for the games that it works on. I'm just frustrated, luckily amazon has a great return policy so I will be able to get another card here within 2 days to find out once in for all if its really the card or not. Either way as things stand right now I feel that certain games are unplayable because of the screen tearing. And whats weird is its not your typical screen tearing it's different almost like ripples in the screen along with the flickering textures and popping in and out scenary. I have a friend who plays nothing but PS3 so his standards for graphics are pretty low. He was trying to play Black flag this morning and even he says the screen tearing is terrible and has a hard time playing it.

Which 770 did you get? Based off the clock speeds I would guess the 3 fan PNY. Running the 2 fan oc edition and literally can not say how great it is. It's my first ever high end card (owned a GeForce 6600, hd 5770 and hd 7770 before) but it blew me away. I may have gotten lucky, but most reviews and forum'ers tend to give both the PNY variations great reviews.
And yes, ripples sounds like a faulty card.
