My friend and I are having a debate. She says that if you are groomsman or bridesmaid, you should always get a plus one, regardless of how serious a relationship you may be in. You should be allowed to take a friend if you want. Thoughts?
Edit: The argument that another friend (the bride) was making was that if the bridal party member is in a relationship, they are obviously allowed to bring the person, provided that they (bride and groom) have met them. Since we are all close friends this isn't a problem for those couples amongst us. The bride didn't want the bridal party member to be forced to "baby-sit" a friend/new date who doesn't know anyone else when the bridal party member could be off having fun themselves/with the other guests.
The friend who is making the argument that it is required has in the past brought a friend (not a SO) to a wedding, where their date didn't know anyone else (including the bride and groom)..at the least in my book that is inconsiderate, not everybody has unlimited space at their venue or funds..
