Have you looked around in the bios for a sata port speed setting? On my Asus board under Sata Configuration>Chipset Configuration>Sata port speed it gives me three options.
3.0, 6.0, or Auto. Mine is set to auto and picks up the 6.0 speed.
Maybe yours is set to 3.0 speed by default?

IM on SATA 2 and its fast 260mbps ,,,,,,,,,gl

launching and booting....

Photoshop CS5 first launch = 2 seconds

W7 bootup = 20 seconds . Also Crucial is very reliable and stable. thx gl

I dont know much about that Plextor SSD, but I have 2 x256GB Crucial M4's. Very happy with them so far. Crucial M4's are known for their stability and reliability.

If you cannot find much info on the Plextor with regards to the above mentioned, I would play it safe and go for the Crucial.

Like I said... I already own both. I just needed advice on which to use where.
Right now I'm just trying to make the Plextor work at SATA 6.0G speeds.

I wouldn't waste too much time trying to figure it out if everything else appears to be working ok. Though the STR benchmarks may make the difference look gigantic, the real world benefit will be very minimal. Unless you just don't care about getting speeding tickets, a top speed of over 100 MPH is rarely useful except at 3 in the morning on an empty highway. Where as better acceleration can help you all the time. The massive speed boost you get moving from a mechanical drive to an SSD is mainly attributable to the giant reduction in access time (acceleration). Typical computing tasks rarely take advantage of very high STR (200+MB/s).

Ignore the n00bs who didn't bother to read.
Did you check your bios settings?

Oh, well. must have missread or something..

In any case, I don't actually think you would be able to feel a speed difference between those two SSD's.

Also as I've said, the Crucial M4 is known for it's reliability, and if you cannot find any info with regards to reliability on the Plextor you should ask yourself what computer is the most important for you.

If you PC is you main rig, containing most of your important stuff I would put the Crucial SSD into that one, and the Plextor in the Macbook. Crucial M4's are rock solid and fast SSD's. You should also try to benchmark the speed difference. Even if the Plextor has higher speeds according to spec, it does not necessarily translate to real world.

The GA-790XTA-UD4 features Marvell’s SE9128 controller. The internet is full with reviews of how poor the 91xx chips perform.

I've just got an ASUS U3S6 controller and I'll probably get a 240-256GB SSD within the month but I don't expect to hit speeds greater than 400-410 and that's because of the Marvell 91xx chip.

You can try and update your drivers and maybe your numbers will improve a bit but don't expect to get near the theoritical max of the drive. Not with that controller.

If the drive was really operating at SATA 3.0Gbps speeds, you'd be getting lower than 375MB/sec. Previous gen drives generally topped out at around 275. I wouldn't waste time trying to get the drive switched to SATA 6Gb.
