Guys: It's not easy. Between the 5 calls I had to make, and the 45+ minutes I was on the phone, I did manage to get the deal done.

What worked best for me was this:
I called up like I heard they had the Plex 16 in stock, and needed one, but was interested in IF it was in stock and the price.
3 of the 5 tries netted me a "Instock; price is $347.99" response.

I moved to step two:
"Gee, that seems steep, do you price match?"
2 of the 3 remaining people wouldn't do it. One said shes couldn't reach the site, the other said it wasn't the same drive.
The last one allowed the match after her calling Ingram Micro (or whomever their wholesaller is) to be sure they were the same drive.

I let her ring it all up, and after giving me my subtotal (Is there anything else today?" she asked?, I said "No, but I do have a coupon code that my boss OK'ed me to use from the latest catalog'.
I gave her the latest 40 off 200 number, and it was all smooth from there on.

I think the trick I came away with was that you MUST NOT throw everything at them at once. Don't call up and say I know you have this drive, and I want it priced match to z-buy, with my $40 coupon.
Be a little more casual about it. And if it goes south? Don't waste anytime on it -get outta there ASAP, and dial again.
Your chances of getting the same CSR are slim to none.

I don't know -it worked for me. It's all the luck of the draw, and persistence.

These are Staples PM steps to live by guys:

1. Ask if they have an item in stock. When they ask the number, tell them the item number and wait.

2. When they get back with stock info, hit 'em up with a pricematch. Ask them to go to the site while on the phone and guide them through to exactly where it is on the site.

3. If they're hesitant about the product, tell them/ask them to call the warehouse (Ingram Micro) to verify the manufacturer's product #.

4. After getting a new account set up with the PM, or an old account brought up again, tell them you got a coupon in the mail.

5. If they ask any funny questions like where'd you get it and such, they're on to the BBS postings. Gently ease out of it and hang up and call back. I swear they've got a million CSR's just digging their noses waiting for a phone call.

6. If at any time they give you a hassle or stall for more than 20 mins. just hang up and call back. Play them, don't let them play you.

7. If all goes through, remember Staples Is Suck. LOL 😀

There are tons of websites that post the Staples coupons, BUT does anyone know a website which shows "where" each coupon came from? That way, when you call-in for the PM and coupon you can give the correct answer "where" the coupon comes from.

Hopefully, someone on "the inside" 😉 or with inside knowledge 😎 knows how this works.

Any suggestions or links?

TIA!

I was just wondering, which stores PM and has coupons?(other than staples) because i just found an elsa gladiac geforce3 920 for 491 dolares at computers4sure.com and i wanna pricematch that baby

After 4 days of trying I finally got them to match Z-Buy's $229 AND accept the $40 off $200!!! my total came to $204.31 This goes great w/ the 50pk OD CDR's $19.99 - $10 rebate (I used the $20 off $20 deal this morning!!)

Yes someone definately needs to find the place where these things came from. I tried this deal twice so far, first time the dude bullished me on he cant access the website. The second time the lady asked me how did I get it. "We have problems with certain websites giving out our codes"

If you know where the $30 or $40 dollar coupon codes came from, post it here or private message me. Thanks.

Just got my drive today (23 hours after I ordered it!!!!). This is curious, because the CSR said it would be delivered ONMonday March 19th. I can't complain. 😉

Read through the first post again...It's not listed on their site. You've actually got to call and talk to a real person to get in on the deal. I know it sucks but hey it saves you a buck or two.

jimmyle, you won't find it on their site. you probably missed it in the thread, but this was already stated.

arg. gonna have to wait until april to buy this (and won't have to pay til june! love credit cards). hope the deal is still around then.

I don't know how you guys come up with this stuff, but my hats off to ya!

I used the UCDWEB version of this deal and got the drive shipped for $182.32. It took me two phone calls, but I got it done.

Thanks DJChem for the deal.

Anandtech is the goods!

I tried to use the $40 off coupon and csr said the coupon is reserved for Staples Card holder only. Is this true or is she just BSing.

i just got mine for 175 without tax(newegg), how cheap is that for a 16x cdrw?? o yea, and for the 40off , u gotta keep trying, theres some nice csr's out there

Folks a couple of questions:

1. How does the 12x Plextor compare to any other 12x,
such as the Lite-On available from newegg for $118 OEM,
or $125 Retail?

2. How fast a CD-ROM is required to keep up with the 12x or 16x
burn rate? Is this related to DAE?

3. The best price I've found for the 12x is ~$185 shipped.
Anyone seen better?

Thanks and regards,
Chuck

Hey all,
I just ordered another one for my friend. Here is the deal with the $40 off $200 coupon code. It is reserved for Staples Credit Card holders BUT: When the CSR asked me where I got the coupon, I said I got it in the mail. Then he asked, "do you know what credit card this came with?" I answered, "I think this came with MY WIFE'S Staples credit card. He said "ok", and put the coupon code through. Therefor, you do NOT need to USE the staples credit card to make use of the $40 off $200 code. BTW: I PM'ed to UCDweb, and the total, shipped, was $189.00.
