Please "yield" for buses.

And I have no problem slowing down a bit...I do have a problem when a driver swings his bus right in front of a tiny space in front of me...especially when there are literally no cars behind me for miles. Why they can't wait 3 seconds is beyond me. Then what usually happens is they barely make the next light ahead leaving me to stop.

No, it does put more vehicles on the road. People who have a car will drive it. I also can't count how many times I see a bus with 0-3 people in it. Not to mention it drives all of it's routes and makes all the stops regardless if anyone is there or not. If you can drive, do it. If not, get a taxi or something. If there is a demand to be escorted around town, it will be supplied. The problem is I am forced to pay for something that in no way benefits me and in several ways makes driving worse.

The problem is the government monopoly on buses. They own the bus system, therefore they make the laws. I don't see special laws for yielding to semi's (same size if not bigger and more dangerous than a bus) or for yielding to taxi's (same type of service).

Where I live, I've never seen a bus stop if there are no people to pick up or drop off. You pull the rope in the bus when you want it to stop.

You should see mass transit here in Vancouver when a Canucks or Lion game is on. Every bus and Skytrain (LRT) is packed. I can get downtown for $2.25 in 15 minutes whereas a taxi would be 30 min. for $25 --- Mass transit might not make sense in whatever city you're from but it's generally quite good here.

Yes, because there is a demand for it and people will actually use it as an alternative to driving. Nobody who has a car in my town takes the bus.

Again, I still favor private companies over government run buses. Often times the local governments will restrict private companies offering the same service of stops and pickups...probably because they do a better job of it.

You hit a school bus you're fusked in more ways than one. They are built like tanks. Cop will usually give driver benefit of the doubt in a he said she said scenario. Every parent on the bus will sue you regardless. In other words, yes slam on the breaks, fly though the windshield if you must just don't hit a bus.

I believe it's "You must yield if it is safe to do so". Slamming on the brakes doesn't sound very safe to me.
