What's with this?

My friend's boy won't ride with her to the airport to see her off because:

1. It's an "unnecessary cost" ($2.00)
2. They'll just have to say good bye there, why not do it earlier?
3. He'll have to ride back alone (about 1.5 hours)
4. He might miss dinner

I think he's just being a jerk- they won't see each other for four months!

So tell me- would it be worth $2 and a few hours of your time to spend a little more time with your girl?

how long they been dating??
if it's a fresh relationship then i guess he should go...
if it's a more than a 3yr relationship....well, at that point perspectives change...

They've been dating off and on for about a year...

I personally think he's a jerk most of the time, but I'm spoiled

I don't know, I haven't known her very long- I met her in college. But from what she tells me, she used to date a really sweet guy- maybe now she's just settling because she can't have the one she really wants.

Wow. You want to punish someone for actually thinking, and being rational.

seems logical to me... she'll probably just be hooking up with someone else in the
4 months she'll be gone, so he's just getting ready for the inevitable. Plus, 2 dollars
saved is 2 dollars earned in these times.

maybe... i was thinking maybe she goes for abusive guys like this one... jerks like that really piss me off, even though my friend thinks i'm one of them.

No, I just think his priorities are a little off. Are you telling me that if you weren't going to see your girl for 4 months that you'd be more worried about eating dinner and saving $2 (which she offered to pay) then spending time with her and seeing her off?

right, so he's effectively saying that her company isn't worth 2 bucks. now unless he's homeless or something, i don't think that's a very good mindset to have in a relationship.

ok if she were leaving for only a week or so, I'd side with the guy, but four months means he needs to see her off. The only thing I'd side with him on in this argument is the 1½ hour drive back alone, which is bound to suck since he'll probably be all teary eyed and stuff, might be dangerous to be driving.

I've thought that before, only to get majorly burned,
on more than one occation... so i don't see anything
terribly wrong with his decision

He doesn't have to drive- it's a MetroRail or something like that- he just has to sit and stair out the window- or stand if he wants.

And, for a few of you who have PMd me stating all the logical reasons why I am wrong, he doesn't have anything to do that day- no packing because all his stuff is going to be shipped off and he'll be living out of a suitcase. He is the one leaving and he also agreed to keep the relationship, it wasn't all her. And he doesn't have a job or anhone to see that day, he's just taking her to her train and then going home to be a couch potato.
