Please stop the nested quotes.

What is the limit to reach this nest quoting?

Common sense should dictate how far back in the conversation you need to go to provide context for your response.

I would think 3 or 4 quotes at the very most.

Is there an actual forum rule against nesting?

Good question.

What's a nested quote and what does it mean to trim them?
edit: I think I might know what it is. Is it when you start quoting ridiculous numbers of people in your posts just to be annoying and I assume trimming is taking some of the quotes out of it.

Exactly. 😀

What's the big deal? I don't see how this could really bother someone... Oh noes I have to scroll down!

I understand that if the mods don't enforce the rules, then things eventually can get out of hand.

It's not scrolling down that bothers me, it's when I have to scroll side to side.

Unfortunately my monitor is only 1280 x 1024. If I had a widescreen I suppose it would be different.

Bump for the morning crew.

I think we're safely into "Neffing@Work" crew hours now, but I digress.

Unless something is extremely relevant, trim the damned quotes.

Edit - I assume this means we'll need a new way of calling out R-E-P-O-S-T then. 😛

Next person to play the nested quoting game gets a week off.
Any takers?

Mod
That's awfully charitable of you to give a warning. It's sad that it was necessary. Even when warned earlier in this thread that people have been vacationed in the past, a number of posters continued to nest their quotes. (And posters who should know better!)

Hopefully in the next upgrade of fusetalk, it automatically trims down the quotes. I've seen it in action elsewhere (physicsforums.)

Looks like there is another Mod that is not so charitable.

Bans started being issued at the 3 quote level.

We can still do it without quotes if someone really needs to. Like just posting a single letter. That may be against some other rule I don't know though. It's pretty close to neffing.

🙂

Now THAT is funny 😀

Because it can't be read after 2-3 quotes.

I came in here hoping to see some wicked long nested quotes, but I've been disappointed. There have been many threads that had like 15-20 quotes in a row! I don't see what the problem is.
