Tai-Chi Master with Jet Li. Warning: only rent if you want to see Jet-Li fight a double decker stack of Shaolin Monks armed with sticks.

Fist of Legend with Jet Li.

End of story.

All the moves in this movie are copied, repeated in other movies. It is one of the original, raw, badass martial arts movies ever made.

I also found it hilarious that it was a typical Japan vs. China movie. LOL...

If you are able to enjoy old non-flashy-special-effects movies, maybe even in B&W, then some of the real old Akira Kurosawa flicks are GREAT, and were the source material later remade into the CLint Eastwood spaghetti westerns and The MAgnificent Seven.

For Akira Kurosawa, that Toshirô Mifune plays one S E R I O U S L Y BBBAAAADDDDD-ASS Samurai.

Some are:
Yojimbo (The Bodyguard),

The Hidden Fortress,

Rashômon,

The Seven Samurai (a long one),

Throne of Blood (is basically Willie the Shake's Macbeth )

Sanjûrô,

Akahige (Red as in blood Beard)

Also, I have Iron Monkey and laugh at it sometimes.

Yeah, I love Kurosawa. The only one I have not seen there is Akahige; I'll have to check it out.

The new Seven Samurai Criterion Blu is on it's way to my house; can't wait to re-watch it in it's newfound glory. :awe:

Ip Man (a.k.a Yip Man) is one of the best Martial Arts movies I've seen in the last 15-20 years. Haven't seen the sequel yet though.

It's decent but suspension of disbelief doesn't work for me when watching it. Particularly during the scene with the 10 karateka.

Red Cliff anyone?

It was released in 1994.. Fist of Fury was in 1972. (I do like Fist of Legend more though.)

Well if you are talking great karate flicks, you are talking shaw brothers films. But the best of the best has got to be The Kid with the Golden Arm. Golden Arm is bad bad motherfracker, lol. The fight scenes are truly among the best. You can watch the whole film on the tube. I won't post a link to it though. But its there. The Chee Saw Gang, 4 Chiefs 🙂. You gotta check it out
