which rig you putting it in? one of the ones listed in signature?

Nope, haven't decided yet. Might be putting it in the rig for my BIL.

Edit: I've decided that I'm going to build using a Gigabyte X48-DS5 and a Q9550 for my BIL, and I'm going to try to shoehorn two HD6870s in there, budget permitting. He games way more than I do.

Bump because mine arrived this morning (along with a new CPU for quad cores).

Not installed it yet, but it should be a nice bump from my HD4850.

What's the best thing for stress testing an overclock? I assume Furmark doesn't work if they prevent it running full load?

Also, is it worth even trying to O/C the RAM? Since the RAM is about the same speed as the 6870, I would imagine with a slower GPU even overclocked, it wouldn't really benefit from more RAM speed?

(Sapphire here).

You should def. get the ram up too.. ^-^

OC @ 1.22V (hardware canucks saphire 70' and xfx 50')
6870 got 1021 mhz core, 1185 mhz memory (~151.7 gb/s bandwidth)
6850 got 1010 mhz core, 1092 mhz memory (~139.8 gb/s bandwidth)

Those are some nice overclocks :)
From hardware canucks.

The benchmarks look great too, I still think id go with a 6850 over a 460.

Got my XFX HD 6850 yesterday from NCIX
Installed at lunch time with the 10.10c Catalyst hotfix
Tweaked the settings in the CCC after worked
Enjoying it since!!!!!

What a little beast!

BTW, the XFX has a default fan speed over 70% which is quite audible. On the xfx website there's a BIOS update you can do easily to fix that. Since then the fan speed at startup is down to 45% and you can't hear it.

Props to AMD and XFX!

All stock volts, using CCC I'm at 850/1060 without any obvious problems in Furmark (using etqw.exe).

My Asus 6850 is currently driving around in the back of a big brown truck. The driver should let it come check out my computer case later today.

Running a 6870 in my primary WS to test OpenCL (my home station will get a 6970 or better, depending on price.)

Got the Sapphire 6870 today, New Egg being almost around the corner from my place of employment helps a lot on fast delivery times..

I have got to say that the box is HUGE, lots of filler and padding. Fairly nice box art, and a little sticker that says the packaging is made with 100% recyclable paper”. Not that it’s MADE FROM recycled paper but hey once you are done with the box YOU can recycle it. WTG Sapphire LOL.

Loads of Hype on the box like “Annihilate the competition with the pure power of the SAPPHIRE HD 6870!”

They must have a marketing guy spend hours on end looking for the perfect adjectives for the copy, things like “Incredible realism”, “Unprecedented features”, or “Ultimate immersive gaming experience”. Makes you salivate just reading about it.

This is interesting. I have my 6850 in right now and was able to set the OC to 900/1100 using the CCC. Even shows max of 1000/1250

Good, I am paying an extra $7 for the ASUS DirectCU version over the Sapphire version, even though a) I hate the DirectCU's lack of a full shroud and b) the Sapphire HSF/cooler is very similar to the DirectCU's which makes me wonder why I'd pay the extra $7. Solid caps, I guess. So the ASUS had better dang well oc like a bat out of hell! :)

Edit: I did some reading and came away with a loss of respect for ASUS's DirectCU line. I canceled and will order a Sapphire instead. Cheaper by $7 and it will get here in a week, versus 2-4 weeks. ASUS's card is still good, but imo the Sapphire is almost as good. :)
