I'm fairly certain that checking in on your first flight relieves you of the very early check-in deadlines for your connecting flights because they have issued you a boarding pass for the connections.

I really don't think you have a problem.

These. The ONLY problem with kranky's advice is that the flights may not have been unrelated bookings... as in, Expedia just found the cheapest flights that take him from one airport to the next that have a certain time frame in between... if he has to change terminals then he may have to go through TSA security again and that's an hour in itself.

Yup confirmed that I have to get the boarding pass at LAX. This might suck.

I already paid the CC off, is it too late to not authorize the charges or am i screwed on that front as well?

I mean it really looks like I am just going to have to run, run some more and pray that TSA line isnt a mile long, which knowing LAX will be.

My niece just went to UK and had only 40 minutes for a transfer AND the flight was late getting there. She was running and a security staff guy asked her about her troubles, and made the right calls on the radio. They held the plane for her:)
I think you can get help if you ask for it.

paying your CC off won't affect your ability to not authorize charges.

I don't know if this is how all airlines work, but I once missed a southwest flight because I was stuck in security (the security line for a Tuesday 6am flight was quite seriously out the door, made no sense). They offered to put me on the next flight (it was in 8 hours) until they realized that the airplane that I 'missed' was still at the terminal. Anyway, the point being, even if you miss the flight, they might be able to accommodate you with a later flight.

You usually have 60 days to dispute a charge. Check your CC's contract or contact them on the phone.

Expedia blows. They do this all the time, apparently. connecting flights 10 minutes apart, in different airports, 1 day earlier...BS. That's why I avoid them.

hmmm...I say you talk with the airport. work otu some deal with the Tahiti flight, such that they KNOW you are on your way. chances are...the flight will be delayed by a bit.

Either stick with current plan, learn to have fun if things don't go the way planned (I know it's tough--shitload of cash, honeymoon, new bride, everything NEEDS to be perfect. sucks.) Hell, you could end up having a blast in LA for 1/5 what you currently plan on paying for the Bora Bora trip.

It's a story to tell the kids.

Whens the next flight to Tahiti. Maybe you can just catch the next flight to Tahiti and let the hotel know you'll be late

Not to flame or thread crap, but let this be a lesson to those who have little experience booking extremely exotic vacations. Don't do it, go to Florida unless you know what you're doing.

If you have to get the boarding pass at LAX, I'm sorry to say it's not a good situation. You can't go through security without the boarding pass, so you have to go to the counter first to get your boarding pass and THEN get in the security line.

I can't offer any advice, but I can learn from your mistakes. If I travel Internationally, I think I'll pay a travel agent to handle it for me.

Send this to The Consumerist.

They'll get some action to happen I'd think.

Haven't read the thread yet, but my roommate works at Expedia Corporate. I'll read in a sec and see if there's anything I can do.

this is a situation that calls for some serious social engineering.

here's some info about Expedia management - names, phone #, etc.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=EXPE

i'd get on the phone & ask one of those senior managers to help sort this out.

that's what travel agents are for.

there's also an exec named Erik Blachford, don't know if he's still with Expedia
http://www.informationweek.com...html?articleID=6505856

there's also the Expedia message board @ Yahoo - one time i had something to
sort out with HP & the Yahoo message board took me right to Carly Fiorina, who
assigned an assistant to sort it out.

http://messages.finance.yahoo....ks_E/forumview?bn=6530

good luck working it out. Expedia has some obligation to help you - that's what
travel agents are for.

If all else fails (all else being what wwswimming said), if you have two friends who want to get away to LA, you can still take your AA flight to make it to your connection. Let's just say that online boarding passes are... editable... and IDs are only checked during security. DTW doesn't have the scanners in security to check your boarding passes like ORD, and the gates agents or flight crew never asks for ID. Just something I noticed from flying every week.

You can try calling the credit card company and asking them to help you with the airlines. CC's usually have very friendly cust serv depts and they might have this as a common problem in their db and can conf the AA in. Maybe worth a shot.

Or if you work in a decent sized company or corp maybe you have a dept that handles travel arangements and they can contact the airlines?

To respond to both of you, I definitely wont book through expedia again, but this is the first time I've ever had a problem. I booked a super complex flight plan through them a year and a half ago traveling to Australia, had like 8 different flights, all of it went off without a hitch, this is the first time I've had a problem with them and will certainly be the last. I'll call my AAA agent next time.

It's not the first time this has been posted. In any case, the authorities are aware of this loophole, which is why the fix is in place in some airports. However, I haven't seen it at DTW, which is amazing since they have a brand new terminal and equipment.
