I have an older machine with a Intel Seattle bx-2 Motherboard with a fried P3-500 processor (fan plug came off during a move). I am going to replace it with an P3-800 MHz. The newer bios for that mobo will support up to 850 but the current bios will only do 600 (100Mhz FSB). Question: When I install the processor will it just top out at the 600 until I can get the bios flashed or will it not work at all. Obiously I can't flash to the newer bios now because the machine is dead. Thank you!!!!

the multiplier on Intel CPU's is locked, so even if your system board does not support the correct one the CPU will run at the correct speed, although it may not report it correctly at POST. I have a Celeron 700 that reports as a PIII 656 in a motherboard that does not support it
