Please help: will putting a dvi adaptor on my vga lcd do anything?

also i have a geforec3 ti 200, can it run both vga and dvi outputs at the same time for dual monitor support?

thx in advance

geforce 3 cant do dual display

"dvi adaptor on my vga lcd "

do you mean switching from analog to dvi connectors on video card to lcd?
if lcd has dvi input then yes it will improve pic quality

if you are thinking of going
video card dvi connector => dvi/analog converter => analog input on lcd, no it will not do anything

ya i was referring to an analog monitor using a dvi adaptor to the geforece. So the only way i can get dual monitor support is by using 2 videocards?

Using some kind of DVI dongle won't change the fact that you are using an analog LCD. In fact, if you look at a DVI connector, you'll see 3 rows of pins, and a box of 4 pins off to the side, with a kind of crosshair separating them. That box of 4 pins are the analog signal pins for connecting a DVI card to an analog monitor. In the end, you'll still be dealing with an analog signal on an analog monitor. You can't magically change an analog monitor into a digital one by adding some kind of DVI adapter to it.

can anyone recommend a good/relatively (under 30, preferabley under 20) cheap pci video card

you will get the most out of getting a new card. but if you realy want, just go to some search engine, like pricegrabber.com and look. they allow you to limit yourself to pci, and maximum price.

since this is a secondary card, you wont get 3d or anything, so you can get virtually any card. matrox and ati have the better 2d quality.

Pine Technology 32MB TNT M64 Video Card Model PVT03BB4 PCI Version Retail Box $35.00

ATI Xpert 98 8MB PCI VIDEO CARD - OEM $33.00

ATI XPERT 128 16MB PCI RETAIL $44.00

That is the case with DVI-I, but not with DVI-D. DVI-D only has the digital out. DVI-I has the analog crosshair and one can convert it to analog HD15.
