All I hear about this election is people want change, change, change. Yet...

Current Obama job approval rating 58%
http://www.businessinsider.com/obama-approval-rating-trump-hillary-clinton-polls-2016-9

Current approval rating for Congress (in case you didn't know both houses run by Republicans) 12.5%
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/congressional_job_approval-903.html

So if people don't want a 3rd Obama term why do so many approve of the job he is doing? Don't give me that he's on his way out stuff, Bush was in the 20s on his way out. Why do so many dislike the job Republicans in Congress are doing?

Are people really making a case for Trump and Republicans this fall??

Most people have hated Congress in general awhile now I believe.

Probably more than it has ever been, or it was lately from a lot of polls.

If you don't know why people want change from the current screwed up system where politicians don't give two shits about the general public, there is really nothing to discuss....

Congress? People want THEIR change. No one is getting it, no one is winning, because 60 votes in the Senate is both practically impossible and required. So long as that is a reality this country cannot be governed. Our system is dysfunctional as you vote for a President / Party / Direction / Change but ensure that nothing can actually happen.

Least when you vote for a Party in the UK their leader becomes Prime Minister and has some sort of power behind them to enact what the people voted for.

To me the explanation looks simple. Practically everyone hates how Congress is acting and how they do nothing. That seems to be a universal feeling regardless of party identity. Where there is a difference, I suspect, is that those 58% percent of people who approve of Obama blame Republicans for the shitty Congress we have right now. The other 42% either blame Obama or they blame Democrats for the shit show that is Congress.

To me that spells bad luck for trump and it says that Hillary can't be partisan or she will be a one term president. I don't think that will be an issue for her.

"In 1971, the cost of running for congress in Utah was $70,000[129] but costs have climbed.[130] The biggest expense is television ads.[46][125][129][131][132] Today's races cost more than a million dollars for a House seat, and six million or more for a Senate seat.[5][46][131][133][134] Since fundraising is vital, "members of Congress are forced to spend ever-increasing hours raising money for their re-election."

I've always known things have been bad for a long time, but man.

And there are 17,000 lobbyists hanging out in DC ? :p

Another question, why do we keep voting them in?

State and Local government tends to have a greater impact on most peoples lives than Federal anyway, but a lot of people seem to not realize that.

The whole system in general has gotten so bloated it is pathetic though, no matter which party as been in charge.

I think people hate congress ( both republicans and democrats ) for not being able to accomplish anything for the last 8 years.

Thanks for that Mr Obvious. The last 8 years have been Republicans though :p

I always knew the 60 votes in the Senate was going to be a complete mess when that passed.

The Republicans have not been in charge of Congress House or Senate for 8 years. Both parties have been responsible and equally libel for not doing a damn thing. Mr. Oblivious.

I agree the 60 vote thing is a mess and they need to pass bills as stand alone bills.

My bad they have only owned the House of Representatives over the 112th and 113th, not both Mr Clueless.

You are right, when the dems were in control, their approval went up;)

People believe what they want to believe.
Now that Obama is coming to an end, people (the idiots) realize that Obama DID NOT talk away their guns.
That Obama DID NOT rig the system so he could have a third term (which I wish he had done).
That Obamacare wasn't the job killer republicans claimed he would be.
Nor did Obama raise everyones taxes and drive the country into another depression.
And so on and so on...
So people look back and think WOW. Obama wasn't that bad "FOR MY LIFE" after all.
And that is why his approval is so high.

Now, republicans are pulling the same crap with Hillary.
Predicting Hillary will crash the economy. Kill jobs. Drive up taxes. Cause a depression.
And she will welcome every terrorist into the country AND THEN give them free food stamps, jobs, and welfare.

And while the Obama hating idiots are finally realizing Obama wasn't that bad after all, they still don't trust Hillary.
They still believe every negative bombastic thing they are told about Hillary.
And if Hillary is elected, and then re-elected, her approval rating in 8 years will be 60% as well.
Maybe even higher.

But the sarcastic evil side of me still hopes, in a twisted way, that Trump will be elected.
Then, I can sit back and watch republicans destroy America once again.
Privatize social security, privatize the VA, medicare, repeal Obamacare and let the healthcare of profit insurance system ravage the American healthcare system to its core.
Also, start so many Trump wars that a national draft must be imposed.
Just like we had during Vietnam.
And then watch as all those Trump loving idiots wave good bye to the kids as they go off to fight in the Trump wars.
And watch their kids return back home in flag draped caskets.
Because THAT would be the only way, by allowing a president Donald Trump to happen, before people would finally wise up. Maybe...
I believe in stupid is as stupid does.
And I really want those Trump supporters to pay dearly for their stupidity. DEARLY....
Me? I'll vote for Hillary.
I'll be ok.
And just in case Trump is elected, I've booked 6 tickets to Brazil. ;)

Not arguing that point. Just saying both parties suck equally.

You are entitled to your opinion.

They all belong in Clintons “basket of deplorables”.
Not just his opinion but the entire country. Maybe the BODs didn't participate in the polls because Obama rigged them :)

He doesn't do stupid things (at least since after the first year or two in office) and doesn't say stupid things. Not making people's lives worse is good enough to get you decent favorability, Obama has provided small yet positive improvements albeit off a low base he inherited with the Great Recession. Combine that with how they perceive his potential replacements (abysmally) and that's more than enough to make people see him in a pretty good light.

Most of the complaints about Obama are he didn't completely fix the things Republicans screwed up. And we should go back to them why?? Oh I know, 800K jobs lost/month
