What about the people that don't live here and run into threads that already have 100+ posts in it? It makes it a confusing mess for those people to sort things out.
The ability is there. If we are too stupid to figure it out, we are too stupid to be posting.

"Too stupid to post"?
You've been here how long?

I support nested quotes but no more than 3 levels deep.
And there should be a cutoff for how much text gets quoted in any case. Do not like seeing long ass stories quoted with a "LOL". That was especially bad in the Better Nate than Lever thread.
I really want this. I personally want at least 7, possibly 9. Without nesting conversations really devolve and I can't follow them.
I would be willing to compromise with 5.
3 is absolutely not enough to follow long discussions.

Selective extraction to destroy a post's context does not bode well for you.
Look: Nested quotes - If an old fart like myself can figure it out - you young whippersnapper hotshots should have no problem.
Simple enough to do. Takes minimal effort. History shows that too many members are too lazy to go through the minimal effort needed to remove the unnecessary nested quotes. Thus, I prefer the minor inconvenience of creating a nested quote vs. the constant annoyance of unnecessary nested quotes.
But, as a person who reads a lot of threads, I haven't noticed a short attention span problem prohibiting me from following multiple threaded conversations within the same thread.
In fact, I can't think of a single example where it IS necessary to have a nested quote.
The problem is that there are members here that have a short attention span and need their hands held.
Heaven forbid that they have to actually exercise the few memory cells that work!:hmm:
"Without nesting conversations really devolve and I can't follow them." "I am not going to spend 5 minutes scrolling through 2 pages looking for who is replying to whom and keeping track of all that crap."
So, what you're trying to say is that you refuse to read the threads - you want everything summarized in one gigantic post with as many as 9 nested posts.
I've got bad news news for you... "back to multi-nesting 10 deep..." It won't make it to 10 deep. Back in the fusetalk days, the moderators usually started warning and vacationing people at under that amount. I personally spent quite a bit of time moderating by trimming down unnecessarily nested quotes, all the while muttering "stupid fusetalk, why does it allow posts to be nested so deep." Go ahead, search technical forum issues & personal forum issues. There are dozens of complaints from the Fusetalk days about excessively nested posts, and that doesn't even begin to compare to the number of PMs to the moderators complaining about certain threads. There's absolutely no reason for 10, 9, 7, or even 5. And, imho, no reason for more than 1 or 2.
It's fine if you are quoting directly above you, it gets annoying when its the 94th reply which quotes the 17th and you have to scroll back and forth trying to find it...
and apparently I fail at nesting...
