At one point I had 2 PSN subs due to gaming with my sons. One has expired and my primary account expires in 2029 because I stacked subs years ago. Not planning on renewing. As a side note, my XBox sub expired in March and there's absolutely no reason for me to renew there either, doubly so since the price is now $30 a month, which is absolutely ridiculous.
This is a sentiment that I've been seeing anecdotally among friends for a while. People who held PSN accounts for over 10 years and are just not renewing and looking elsewhere for their games because Sony ceased to be their go-to steady stream of high quality single-player experiences. Sony gradually lost these people in their demand for infinite growth on live service (which was never going to happen because the whales that provide the money on other games are already hooked on those games).
I think Sony is now bracing for impact on videogame revenue which is why they started closing down studios like Bluepoint. Wasting all that money on producing a dozen live service games that were either cancelled mid-development or after launch is coming to bite them dearly. Marathon is standing at 25k daily players and I don't think the game is sustainable at that player count.
This might be part of the reason they're not postponing the PS6 release despite the RAMaggedon. They need the novelty ASAP to renew mindshare. I just don't think it's going to work.
