I didn't expect people on these forums to take my comment to the fullest extreme, but I suppose anything is possible around here. Remove any thoughts of physical involvement regarding "whatever you want" & maybe your thoughts change, maybe not, doesn't really matter.

Nobody should be able to tell anyone what they can or cannot do with a product after purchase (physical harm excluded, for those who couldn't figure that part out).

If I want to download & install a file onto a product I purchase, that should be no problem.

Nobody would stop you. But facilitate other people doing so by distributing the means for other people to do the same thing and you are doing much more than what you describe.

How so? Sony is the one that started the patent trolling here, and is why LG filed their claims.

LG is actually a somewhat bigger company than Sony is.

Yes. But when we speak of this level of "big" a few million dollars don't really count. Also Sony has a better knowledge in the gaming industry than LG.

I wasn't talking about that either 😛. You can't purchase a PS3, for example, and use it to do anything illegal, such as make it read pirated games just because "you bought it and can do whatever you want with it." By that logic piracy in all of its digital forms is completely fine, always.

More like 20 billion dollars (which is roughly 20-25% of their revenue), so its not exactly miniscule either. The latter part has nothing at all to do with this issue.

It was expected. Who could overthrone such a big company like Sony. And to think i was scared into not being able to purchase a PS3.

LG is a larger company than Sony according to market cap $$$. LG is in a lot of industries that Sony doesn't even touch.

Sony has a history of selling a product and then nerfing the functionality. PS3 emotion engine, gone. Linux support, gone. They do this by HW changes and by getting rid of functionality through firmware/software updates. I like my PS3, but Sony is shady about a lot of things.

The emotion engine doesn't count at all. They didn't remove any hardware from an existing product; they offered a new product with changed hardware. No problem there whatsoever.

Getting rid of OtherOS is a problem though, and nobody should support Sony on that move.
