PlayStation 3 shipments to Europe being seized

PlayStation 3 shipments to Europe being seized after LG wins injunction against Sony
logger.php

It's a... SONY. It's a legal dispute. Sony are in deep water now as shipments of PlayStation 3's have been seized as LG won a preliminary injunction against Sony in a patent battle between the two companies. The ruling by the civil court of justice in the Hague means that all new PlayStation 3's have to be confiscated as they are imported into the UK and the rest of Europe for at least 10 days.

Tens of thousands of PS3's were seized by customs last week in the Netherlands, with more damage to Sony to come. If the injunction is extended it could mean PS3's vanishing off store shelves. Sony, which reportedly imports around 100, 000 consoles per week is frantically trying to get the ban lifted.
The legal battle between Sony and LG centres around a Blu-ray patent, LG claim that the PS3's infringe in a number of their patents relating to the playback of Blu-ray discs. If Sony is found to have infringed LG patents, Sony could be forced to compensate LG for every single PS3 it has sold around the world. Life would be very, very good for LG if this were to happen.

old news isnt it? last week iirc. latest i heard is that they're looking into doing the same in the US. storing shipments of bravia tvs and ps3s

tricky and potentially deadly move for LG if they lose though considering they would have to pay storage costs and damages to sony. for the way sony have been recently, kick them harder LG!. those bastards deserve it!

Given the way Sony has been behaving lately, especially with the GeoHot case, I'm pulling for LG on this one. Even though I hate patent trolls, Sony needs to be taken down a peg.

Machines will laugh at us after the Singularity when they see how we hoard technology instead of sharing and growing it as it should be. I don't blame LG, or even Sony, I blame all corporations for slowing the progress of the world community.

What; this can't be right! I am from the old continent and this is just a kick in my a_s. Just when i was going to purchase such a console...

Some stores will probably have it, or perhaps you could import it?

After the raid on that guy in Germany & the GeoHot nonsense, I'm all for LG with this. Sony is trying to control every PS3 owner & I'm sick of reading about it. We should be able to do whatever we damn well please with a product after purchase...period.

Sony needs to be taken down more than just one peg.

Hit 'em hard LG.

Yeah, people should be able to pirate games with their systems. How dare Sony try to put a stop to this.

copying games you own to the internal drive isnt piracy

getting the ps3 to read ntfs isnt piracy

getting the ps3 to play other media formats isnt piracy

geohot clearly said he was against piracy when he posted the keys,

It was expected. Who could overthrone such a big company like Sony. And to think i was scared into not being able to purchase a PS3.

Good point, these huge companies rule this world now. It's pretty sickening, actually. You should watch The Corporation, a documentary that takes a deeper look at the psychopathic behavior of corporations.

Really? You condone companies invading people's homes over a console? Wow.

No, but your statement of being able to do "whatever you want" with a product after purchase is just silly. There should be consequences (which will never be the same), but confiscating PS3's from peoples homes is ridiculous, I agree.

I didn't expect people on these forums to take my comment to the fullest extreme, but I suppose anything is possible around here. Remove any thoughts of physical involvement regarding "whatever you want" & maybe your thoughts change, maybe not, doesn't really matter.

Nobody should be able to tell anyone what they can or cannot do with a product after purchase (physical harm excluded, for those who couldn't figure that part out).

If I want to download & install a file onto a product I purchase, that should be no problem.
