That's ridiculous. I could never play a game for so long.

played an online wargame that resets every month. at the start of a new war (12am EST), you have to rescout the entire map to find loot, resources, claim territory, etc.

you're only allowed 5 territories on reset day, so you have to scout the entire world for best since everything is randomized every reset. it takes 9-12hrs to scout EVERY single sector.

several dozen or so hardcore players did that EVERY month. one of them was me 😱

ahh.. those were the times...

I don't think it really compares to a group encounter where several others are relying on you where even taking a bio break = 18 hour failure for everyone... The guy said he didn't even get up to take a piss... mountain dew anyone?

This is really rediculous. It's like a bunch of programmers just thought it would be fun to add an extra 0 to this bosses health. The dumb part is people willing to accept this ridiculous challenge. This is not the 24 Le Mans. It's a video game where you pay to be entertained and there no hot chicks, fast cars, and big prize money at the finish line. I'm all for pushing the limit and testing one's will and endurance but this is like a cruel joke, not a well planned and executed test of skill and endurance.

IS this just a case of ignorant, stubborn players? There are some Mega Man battles on NES that could last forever if you don't select the correct weapon; the boss's health will never decrease.

I remember the Everquest days of learning an encounter like The Rathe or Emperor Ssra. I was an enchanter (both of those encounters relied heavily on enchanters), which meant that I had to 'mez' 2 mobs every 30 seconds (making sure it didnt resist) for a full hour while keeping an eye on mana or it would cause complete chaos and a total wipe (no breaks obviously). The floor would be littered with those 'mana rods' I forget the name that you had to pick up to keep your mana going the whole fight. 4 to 6 clerics would all heal one tank in a complete heal rotation to keep the tank alive, while 2 other clerics would have to continuously heal the offtanks who were keeping the other mobs occupied. This was when the encounters were yet to be beaten and were at their strongest. Every 50-80 players in the guild had to be at their top shape for a full hour, one miss by any player and you'd have lost all the work you did and wiped.

What a rush! That was about 8-9 years ago.

Then, I got a life. WTF was I thinking😕.

I 2boxed Vadinn with a friend. Not only did I have to keep 2 mobs locked permanently, I had to keep vadinn slowed and my pet charmed. For 45 minutes. And my other character was part of the healer rotation. No dull moments there.

There are some different rumors. SE claims that no one has really figured out how to beat this boss without using the 18 hour method. There is supposed to be a much easier way and SE also released a video which is supposed to contain some hints on how to do it properly. I can't really say for sure though. This is just feedback that I have collected from those who have played the game which I have no experience doing. There are others who claim that SE doesn't even understand how to beat him "properly".

I enjoy a good MMO and RPG but this is too ridiculous even for me lol.

it's a "mega super boss" that can spawn after you beat a boss. Not may people even fight the thing. FFXI is a mmorpg, there's no such thing as a "boss" in the conventional sense of an adventure game, or rpg.

New game enemy takes a solid day to defeat
Introduced in the game's latest downloadable update, the boss monster "Pandemonium Warden" remained perfectly fit after a group of high-level adventurers wailed away at it nonstop for over 18 hours straight.
😕

The boss had full health after 18 hours of fighting.
