Also, you don't have to be super competitive to play on Battle.net. Who cares if you get crushed? You can lose and still have tons of fun.

I disagree, especially with the bolded part. If you don't study your build tree, memorize counters and micro+macro like a madman you'll just get rolled in under 5 minutes.

It's possible to lose and have fun when there is at least the illusion that you had a chance to win.

Have you ever watched people from the bronze league play? You can take your sweet time, appreciate the shiny protoss lights, neatly arrange your base, and still win.
