Nice. Good for them. I'll be getting one probably in October.

Exactly, good for them. More competition is always welcome which means it'll make everyone step up their game.

Like I've been saying. Apple can only hold the top for so long because there's so much competition. We're barely a year into the tablet wars and it's just heating up.

Just got mine yesterday. Liking it so far. Packaging itself was impressive. Got a 16 Gb. Surprised that more 32 Gb and 64 Gb were sold than 16 Gb, but they might just have more 16s in stock?

What's really helping the sales is the massive installed user base of BB's, it's a natural upgrade for them.

We're not talking iPad #'s, but it's pretty good.

Let's get QNX on a phone now, RIM...

I want to see a 3 or 4 horse race, some good competition keeps all the players focused and producing better devices for us...

Apparently BB is putting out new smartphones this year (Bold Touch, new "storm" etc). They're putting out their new 'superphones' next year and they will be QNX based.

So, anyone notice who Abramsky's boss is, (analyst who wrote the piece DBZ linked to?) Seems she sits on RIM's board of directors, and RBC, the analyst's employer is a Market Maker for RIM

http://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks/officerProfile?symbol=RY.TO&officerId=533769

The Market Maker

The market maker is an investment company that registers with the SEC to buy and sell a particular stock on the Nasdaq. Unlike their counterparts at the NYSE, the market makers work through a computer network rather than on the floor of a physical exchange.
Their job is, literally, to make a market in a particular security. Here is what they do:

  • They fill orders for their company’s customers and for their own account
  • They also act as dealers to profit from the difference between the bid and ask price for the stock

Best Buy to All Things Digital on Friday:

5-21-11
“While we cannot comment on specific sales numbers, we continue to see consumer demand for the BlackBerry PlayBook,”

4-28-11
“Best Buy has had great success selling BlackBerry smartphones in North America, so our sales expectations for the BlackBerry PlayBook were very high,” the company said on April 28. “To date, we have far exceeded those expectations and we’re finding that customers are even more interested in purchasing once they’ve tested the PlayBook in the store.”

Geller, (aka Boy Genius) the author of the 2nd piece is a BB fan, it would have taken a lot for him to publish a negative RIM story.

LOL, it's bullshit. Non of the real gadget blogs have picked it up. If it's real you'll know on June 16th from the earnings call.

I'm expecting some missed targets and a final crash on RIM stock that day. A few weeks after that, may be a good time to buy in. Otherwise, it'll do well and it'll hold and again, good time to buy.

RIM just reached out to us with a statement regarding our post from this morning in which we reported that a big box retailer provided us with information surrounding BlackBerry PlayBook sales and returns. RIM’s response is as follows:

The source of the reported comment is anonymous and unknown to RIM, but the comment is certainly inconsistent with the positive feedback we have received from our main retail partners. As previously indicated, RIM will provide a business update on BlackBerry PlayBook results on June 16.

For reference, here is a public statement recently offered by Best Buy:

“Best Buy has had great success selling BlackBerry smartphones in North America, so our sales expectations for the BlackBerry PlayBook were very high. To date, we have far exceeded those expectations and we’re finding that customers are even more interested in purchasing once they’ve tested the PlayBook in the store.”

While we appreciate RIM’s comment and we have no doubt that PlayBook sales at Best Buy have exceeded expectations, we stand by our source and our story from earlier today.
