what's your favorite thing about the playbook?

I likey the interface. Swipe from top down to get program details/options, down to up to "return to desktop", and bottom left to right to get keyboard. And the speakers are amazingly good for such a small device; it's not "great", but it's still way better than my laptop.

I too do like the browser.. and the screen is nice..

But the interface and pretty much everything else about it was a turn off.

We are shipping our demos back to RIM. We got 3 1 for the IT Execs 1 for networking team and 1 for Desktop.. all 3 teams hated it..

But then again all 3 teams also refuse to use their company issued Blackberry's and use Androids and Iphones only.

I wonder if they may be biased...

Not really.. the problem is even the Torchs suck..

the OS is terrible the features and device power is laughable compared to even lower end Criket Androids..

The Problem is RIM and its horrible devices and software and market.

They are losing the war.. they sat on thier laurals way too long and counted on the BES/Blackberry solution to last way too long.. while Apple and google took the smarthphone market by storm with far more features and better hardware than even the top Blackberrys..
Sure I can carry my Torch and get my Work email and a few other ok features..
Or I can carry my personal EVO with far more tools for an IT person.. and map my work email to it..

same thing the rest of the IT people do..
BTW in all fairness Verizon has sent us numerous other tablets all Androids.. and they were sent back as well.

Waiting for the next gen androids..

i agree on the direction of rim/blackberry. i might actually take an iphone now over one of those things.

/you can have my desire when you pry it from my cold, dead hands
//or upgrade me to a brand spanking new phone or something

I did something awful to my knees doing squats last week and ended up spending a lot of this weekend indoors. That did however give me the opportunity to try my hand at developing for the PlayBook.

It really wasn't that labourious or arcane a process, though it could definitely be better. I mostly followed this "Getting Started" guide to set up my Windows 7 PC as a development platform, used this page for instructions on getting the tablet simulator running, and took this WebWorks/jQuery Mobile app as a sample to getting my own app set up.

It's unfortunate that jQuery Mobile definitely isn't ready for primetime - I was able to get a UI for my app up and running in a few hours, but the functionality is slow and stilted. Sencha Touch seems to be a well-touted alternative but for the moment I'm giving up. It's unfortunate really.

If anyone's curious, I was going to work on a Twitter app for the PlayBook, and I've put the very basic UI online here.

Yea I didn't like the looks of WebWorks, so I wrote my app in Actionscript/Air...although to be fair, I considered that to be a pretty terrible language too.

Playbook needs offline maps. Stat.

Someone borrowed my GPS, and we had to use paper book maps today on a long trip out! Don't have a smartphone or data plan. Even a non-GPS enabled map program would have been nice.

Just got home to find my UK PlayBook sitting on the Dining Room table a full two days before launch! WIN!

Updating the OS now... :D

Power button is raised almost as high as the volume buttons. No issues with pressing it at all. They did say it would be raised by 0.8mm so I guess I have a revised one.

slowly, but surely, hopefully all the things to make the playbook competitive will come out before the touchpad does...
