Is the swipe tutorial on first boot even skippable? I don't believe it is. There's no way someone who purchases the device could miss learning them.

Nope, you cannot. I tried, I really did. It forced me to do the gestures and wouldn't advance until I did. If you forget what you were shown you have bigger issues than not being able to use a really simple tablet gesture.

Have you guys seen the demos of the Nokia N9 with the upgraded version of MeeGo? And how incredibly swipe-happy the OS is? And how everyone is lavishing it with praise for being such a great, unique and paradigm-shifting idea?

Interesting how people's perception of a very similar idea differs from one company to another...

One thing I noticed from the video is that the guy is surely swiping VERY slowly, to make it SEEM that it is very smooth.

Plus it looks like it took the graphical style of iOS, and threw it on their own OS.
