Sorry, but I have to say it: any plasma TV is an over-priced piece of crap. What do you get for your $1,500 price premium over and above a DLP TV? A little more brightness? Yeah, sure, that's worth it.

The 50" Panasonic TV I'm looking at is $1,999 on sale. I don't know of any 50" DLP TVs for $500...if you can find me one that's a decent brand I'll definitely buy it instead.

BTW-My wife wants to mount it on the wall and get rid of the monolith we have now.

If you go with the Panasonic you will love it and once you view in HD you will not want to watch any thing else.

I have an off-brand, but it's a rebadged panasonic. 42" plasma. The things you need to worry about is your altitude(plasma doesn't work well in high altitude, but not a problem for most), how you are transporting it(has to be upright at all times), and where you are putting it. Wall mounting is an option, but it is heavier than LCD's so you'd want a pro to do it. Check to see what kind of burn-in protection it has. Mine has image shift which helps prevent an image from being burned in, plus it has some built-in repair functions that get rid of burn-in(it is not permanent unless you reaaaaally screw it up). I play my Xbox360 on it and have had ZERO burn-in yet. Even with games that have a static image like ammo counts, it just doesn't stick.

I really won't be playing games much with it and I live in San Diego maybe 600' above sea level. I plan on picking it up at my local Circuit City and wall mounting it myself. My neighbor has a wall mounted plasma and he did it himself. I helped him lift the set onto the wall and mounting the bracket iteslf to the wall should be fairly easy.

Unfortunately, I'll be stuck with my standard DirecTV signal until my new HD Tivo unit arrives...probably a few weeks until they can get an installer out to hook it up.
