I suspect many of us have already noticed it, but this thread is a reminder of just how sad modern American conservatism has become. Not just that it exists in an increasingly fact-free zone, but that diehards like Wierdninja really don't know how to do anything besides repeat the talking points they were fed by Trump and his sympathetic media. Backing things up with credible evidence? What's that?
For that matter, the OP is a reminder of just how disconcerting the Trump camp has become. It's not just that people like Texashiker have convinced themselves a second Trump term is inevitable, it's that they genuinely want to see one-party rule, genuinely want the end of democracy. For all the moaning about supposed groupthink by the left, it's really the modern American right that strives for absolute control and monoculture.
I still want conservatism to persist. All countries, not just the US, need a diversity of political beliefs to refine government and keep it in check. But I want to see actual conservatism that adapts with the times and values more than power. Not the authoritarianism and bigotry of Trump, the passive-aggressive theocracy of Pence, or the obstructionism of McConnell.
