For the people who claim they are willing to let the country's people die if they choose the moral high ground, you do not understand what exactly is a nation. A nation rule and policy is not that great, the most important IS its citizen. The people are the true treasure of a great nation thus so, need to do what have to be done to save as many of its citizen as possible.
Which is why the president's oath of office and the oath of citizenship is to protect and defend the citizens of the United States of America. Oh, wait, no it's not.
"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
"that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic"
Citizens come and go, they live and die. Of course steps must be taken to protect the country and its people, but those steps may not run afoul of the bedrock of our society, which is not the people, but the founding laws we follow. Our values do not die if we lose citizens in a terror attack, but this country will no longer be the same United States if we become some Orwellian dystopia in which the gov't can justify any tactics it sees fit in the name of "defending the people."
