Planned Parenthood is more popular than the GOP, polls show

For nearly three months, since videos first surfaced showing Planned Parenthood employees talking about giving organs from aborted fetuses for use in medical research, Republicans have pounded at the women's health group, demanding that the federal government stop funding it.

The result: Americans have a significantly more favorable view of Planned Parenthood than they do of the GOP.

Two polls released Monday — one by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center, the other from the Wall St. Journal and NBC News — provide the data.

Americans have a generally favorable image of Planned Parenthood, with 41 percent viewing the group favorably and 31 percent unfavorably, the NBC/Wall St. Journal poll found. Planned Parenthood's image has actually gotten slightly more favorable since the controversy began, the poll found, although the shift from a poll in July was within the survey's margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

By contrast, only 29 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the Republican Party, with 45 percent viewing the GOP unfavorably.

Pew Research Poll, as referenced above:

With the prospect of a government shutdown apparently decreasing, the public by a wide margin says that any congressional budget agreement must maintain funding for Planned Parenthood.

The latest national poll by the Pew Research Center, conducted Sept. 22-27 among 1,502 adults, finds that 60% say that any budget deal must maintain funding for Planned Parenthood, while 32% say that any agreement must eliminate funding for the organization.

If lawmakers fail to agree on a budget and the government does shut down, more say the Republicans (40%) than the Democrats (26%) would be more to blame; about a quarter (23%) volunteer that both sides would be equally to blame.

Taking stances that the majority of Americans are against seems to be a trend with the minority reactionary zealots that presently control the Repub Party. Sad that the rest of the party gets dragged down with them.

Their behavior only marginalizes and isolates them further and further away from mainstream America.

Winning midterms and then gerrymandering up walls to keep in power can only go so far.

thank the media blitz as of late for that one, have seen so many articles that spend a lot of time going on and on about how many services PP offers and then also adding "and they also do a few abortions"..

My only point on this is I fail to see why a profitable company requires any government assistance in the form of federal funding

Which is true. By any metric, abortions are only a small part of the services Planned Parenthood provides.

Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization. They receive government funding because the majority of their patients are low income.

I fail to see a logical reason why the GOP is even barking up this tree to begin with, seeing as how they seem perfectly fine to hand over tax breaks and subsidies to energy companies while they are raking in record profits and paying out record executive bonuses.

This latest repub idiocy smacks of them trying to get rid of NPR back when Romney was running. Too little, too late, and it adheres to a partisan rational that simply has no place in a modern country's healthcare system.

The GOP is running out of friends fast, and good riddance. I look forward to a day when their absence makes it easier to debate real issues, instead of... well, shit like this.
It says a lot about the GOP that they and some of their vocal supporters still seem to insist that the tax system is a la carte. Remember all the laughter at the unwashed anti-war liberals when they said they didn't want their tax dollars used to bomb brown people? Same principle. Religious beliefs don't trump federal laws. Religious conservatives and those that carry their water really need to learn this simple principle, John Oliver can assist the lazy here too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSQCH1qyIDo Skip to about 3:40 for the gist of it.

So many people are so politically blind that they would watch videos of democrats actually eating babies and still support those democrats as long as the baby eaters were against the other party. Debate real issues? Hah. Like anyone who identifies themselves with either party is actually interested in real issues.

I'd love to see these guys react to the NFL getting the same treatment they want to subject PP too. The non-profit organization that has a president who makes $30million a year, that is subsidized by taxpayers and TV viewers, all for bread and circuses. That money sensitivity would evaporate in an instant!

As someone who couldn't care less about football and resents what it does to the health of our youth, I don't feel my tax dollars should go to supporting that organization and it's penchant for gigantic, super expensive modern stadiums. Figure out a way the rest of us don't have our money going to the likes of the NFL or Exxon Mobil, and we can talk. Until then, an extra special tax exemption for people because it hurts their poor sensitive religious feelings? Letting those people call the shots on the budgets the rest of us live with? Fuck off you republican twats.

sad to see so many people fall for the propaganda of murderers

I know; some of them still claim Saddam had WMD and now want to bomb Iran as well.

How many have to die in wars based on falsehoods before people stop voting for these liars?

NFL isn't a non-profit anymore.

Your hyperbole seems misplaced here, given the only ones acting like blind reactionaries on this issue fall on the GOP side.

Debate real issues? Hah. Like anyone who identifies themselves with either party is actually interested in real issues.

Party affiliation is not a prerequisite for debate, you're just trying to repackage the BothSidesDoIt nonsense. Corporate socialism is alive and well today, if it doesn't factor into the debate for those who rail against less relevant but more appropriate examples of socialism, then they aren't pursuing real debate in the first place. Lots of us fled the major parties and are still very much interested in a dialogue on real issues, surely it's not that difficult to understand?

As long as they are GOP babies. I mean a guy's gotta eat.

And as long as the babies are cooked no further than medium-well. I don't care what you believe, if you're eating your babies well-done, you're a monster.

I haven't really looked into the details of what "federal funding of Planned Parenthood" actually means, or what's meant by "defund Planned Parenthood"

But my impression was that it amounts to Planned Parenthood being reimbursed by Medicaid for providing non-abortion Medicaid-eligible services for Medicaid covered (i.e. poor) people. And that's pretty much it. Is that the case?

PP wants to maximize it's profits by selling Christian human babies with their legs twitching and brains/organs exposed to gypsy cannibal communist muslim space nazi lizard people that want to bring Jesus back to enslave him and kill him again - why can't the GOP let the Free Market sort it all out?
