I think it's still a mess. The game was very stuttery this afternoon, and I ran into a number of other oddities like AA guns that fired but emitted no projectiles and did no damage. I can also confirm that spawn-camping with Liberators still works great 🙁.

yeah none of my vehicle weapons are doing damage lol

I just discovered the "roadmap" thing today, I see nowhere sweetfx integration so I have lost hope that the game will ever look that good again

...

Since all servers are down for, most likely, at least another hour, I likely won't get to test until Monday. But, one thing I'll try is deleting the current useroptions.cfg file, letting the game make a new one, see how different it looks (I've heard this could be a cause for performance issues for some).
I've always had a strange issue that requires my game/launcher to Run as Admin to even utilize the config file so my personal methods won't necessarily work for everyone, at least not step-by-step approaches.
But try deleting that file (just rename to .bak instead of .cfg in case things get screwy) - I've heard the new file will have tweaked default settings and perhaps new line items in the config file. This may only affect someone who has previously edited the config file itself. I've done it extensively, though I don't suspect I've had such issues. Could be wrong.

...

I think that file is an .ini not .cfg.

Game was really laggy last night. Had some real fun in a massive inf battle by the NC warpgate, but the lag and warping made it a bit less fun in the end.

Has anyone tried the different "frames" or whatever they're called for the 1 man aircraft? I got the dog fighting frame for my mosquito and that thing is SO much more agile now. I didn't realize it would be such a big uprade, and I'm only on level 1.

dogfighting is mandatory for the mosquito, I've gone with speed for my reaver.

I got the frame for the hovering, its the 2nd one listed. I maxed it out 😀 Its very nice, but the problem with them is you have to adjust flying based on it. They are each very different for how you play.

The hover one i can literally hover up a cliff wall and go straight, however the turn on craft is stupid tight now, so i can run into stuff easier. Its great for sneak attacks, but you can die very easy if ground vehicles are facing direction you come up to them.

Yeah it was laggy. Seemed to happen to me most often when I was looking up at the sky. Game would turn into a slide show until I looked back down at the ground.

it's not a hack in any way shape or form, it's a mod that makes the game actually look good and increases performance

No, it's a hack. It is a modified Direct3D DLL which doesn't come from Microsoft and as such is considered a hack by SOE and will get you banned for using it.

Besides, modifying the visuals in the game to "make it look better" in this way can alter your visual settings in a way so that YOU get an unfair advantage in terms of visibility that other players do not enjoy, thereby making you a cheater and a hacker.

It's a hack.

If you can't get the game to run with good performance and look great while doing so with your rig, then you are doing it wrong.

Get into the config file and make some changes.

On the right blend of settings, this game can look quite gorgeous during high intensity battles (assaulting towers, at night, with multiple platoons against each other, on Ultra settings? mesmerizing with all the tracers and explosions), especially when you consider this is an MMO and has to deal with the computational issues that come with such.

A game that can support thousands of players, with numerous battles alone having hundreds of participants, is not going to look as good as top of the line AAA titles.
Would it have been better if they used DX11 for their new engine? Definitely, but with a F2P MMO that's a bad business decision at this point in time - they'd be swearing off a fair number of potential players. That said, they should eventually craft a DX11/DX9 hybrid engine, it's very much possible and would benefit everyone.
Until then, what they have now actually looks gorgeous imho (on a blend of mostly Ultra settings).

i can run 60+ fps with the best useroptions.ini configurations, but it still does not compare to when I could use sweetfx

No shit.

It's still a hack though.

You can always go on better than what the devs pushed/provided/allowed.
Doesn't mean it should be permissible.

And what, you think they would "integrate SweetFX"?
Tell me, what major development house has incorporated SweetFX or a similar shader filter suite directly into their engine?

BF3 can be made to look better with certain third-party tweaks. DICE/EA will ban you for those tweaks.
Any major competitive game management team/studio will ban you for such products.

Apparently, you have a problem with not being able to do what you want with a product focused on multiplayer competition on a fairly even playing field.

Although if you ACTUALLY cared about competition, you'd realize visual flourishes are actually HINDERING your performance/capability. Most e-sport pro's/pro-am's will drop settings as much as possible before it muddies the scene. Guaranteed refresh-rate FPS (or higher), not limiting input calculations, no limiting visual depth/acuity, not causing distractions... all are end-goals of such types.

if visual flourishes hinder capability, then they wouldn't allow for flora to be turned on or off, they wouldn't allow us to change render distance, they wouldn't allow us to change gamma, and they wouldn't allow the "0" setting for texture quality in the useroptions.ini that unlocks hidden textures, all sweetfx does is change the lighting and antialiasing which planetside 2 does an absolutely terrible job at. Also, they wouldn't have to incorporate sweetfx, they should just let us disable fxaa so we can install it ourselves. There is literally no reason not to let us make the game look better and run better at no risk whatsoever, especially considering they allowed it before and 99% of games still allow it.

They never allowed it. They didn't assume idiots would do something as stupid as run a foreign injected proxy DLL on their system. Which, by the way, doesn't carry ANY risks such as compromising your system to potential malware by exposing system-level access to 3rd party access.

Other than that, as I said, it's an attack vector on the security of the game itself in terms of cheating. You're externally modifying graphical parameters through means NOT controlled by the game. What's to stop you from enabling wallhacks and other hooks via this proxy? Hmm? The external user has complete control at this point over the external graphics stack and can basically bypass any setting security the game imposes to keep a level playing field. That sure sounds like a great idea to me!

But other than that, it's completely safe and totally not a hack. 🙄

\ What's to stop you from enabling wallhacks and other hooks via this proxy? \

nothing, certainly not locked fxaa, if I really wanted to hack the game it could easily be done, which is why there are so many hackers on planetside 2 already

Hardly, you just think you see them because they kill you. I've seen a few since release, since the first month have not seen any.

Was in a skyguard yesterday and got a few +20 XP surface to air damage points. Glad to see that in place since I didn't kill any air and only got 3 or 4 assists.

Playing last night I had the frame rate down to 17 at times, 100% CPU limited. Its getting kind of ridiculous I need a way to get this game to perform better than that.

I've been getting a bunch of those with the annihilator. Actual kills are rare since it still takes 3-4 hits to down a mosquito, but overall the XP adds up.

@Brightcandle: the performance issues may not be on your end. I think the game has been very laggy since the patch. Sometimes it flies, and then all of a sudden it will be in slideshow mode for a few seconds.

Anyone notice that S2A missles will hit each other if they are both tracking a plane. Pretty funny. I guess its because lots of people had them last night firing same time from cliff.

Game performance has been good on Ceres all day, so has the action at the Crown.. been tearing it up as LA with the cyclone ever since the new patch, it actually has decent range but between my soft point ammo and suppressor, projectile speed is pretty low so I just get up close and personal instead (which is what LA is supposed to do anyway).
