Planetside 2..Free to play..and looking awesome so far!

Not sure if you been following, by Planetside 2 announced its going free to play. But in a good free to play way.

Plus the game is just looking awesome from screen shots..

Now if those are indeed game screen shots, that looks pretty awesome for massive thousand vs thousand battles.

I hope they keep it pretty close to the original but leave out the stupid stompy robots and concentrate more on the grunts than the vehicles.

Also keep the RPG aspects (certs) to a minimum.

why does this put you off? Have there been any details about stupid item stores or the like.

I'd look it up my self but I'm laid up in bed with a bad back and only a load of codine and a touchpad to keep me company.

I usually give f2p games a chance....LoL I thought would be dumb, and short lived...but it's actually pretty fun still. It's actually the only game i've been playing for the last 2-3 months.

I think LoL works because its so simple. In LoL the only stuff you pay for is skins and the ability to level faster.

If Planetside does the same thing then it will be ok. But Im skeptical it will be that way. I foresee pay for upgraded vehicles, weapons, etc. I hope not, but I like to keep expectations low.

That would definitely suck. The great thing about planetside was that you could compete on a fairly even footing against any one else in the game (lag aside).

it's like a MMO Tribes

Probably there will be instancing and you will basically just fight on 32 player servers, but hopefully if each battle is a victory on a static war map it could be really interesting

That's the exact opposite of Planetside. They expect 200 on 200+ battles in certain battles, like it was on Planetside 1.

Are *you* serious? You make a thread that PS2 is going F2P in "a good way" with no information or links. The PS site has no information about it and the news sites don't report anything more definitive than "may be trying to avoid a microtransaction model." You can't get more vague than that.

That last one is the most specific but is still purely speculative as to how *SONY* will interpret the LoL model, and furthermore, I would hardly call the LoL model "F2P in a good way," especially applied to a game like Planetside.

I've been following this game since it was rumored. And yes I think it's going to be awesome.

They're going with the F2P model because they are seeing trends with online gaming that the P2P model will become old. Matt Higby says that TOR will probably be the last P2P game for MMOs.

They've assured us that P4Power won't be in the microtransactions. They're looking at added flair (different camo suits, outfit patch, etc).

No AMS vehicles in the next game. Instead you will have Galaxy Dropships flying around. These will act like AMS units. Not 100% sure if you'll be able to spawn MAXs from the Galaxies.

For any old TR players in the original PS1, you will now be able to gun AND drive the tanks. Always the crux of the Prowler was that you had to devote a third person to use the tank effectively (Driver, Main Gunner, Secondary Gunner). The Prowler was a massive beast back in the day. One of the best tanks in the game, but only when used with other Prowlers. The Vanguard and Magrider could usually hold their own 1v1, but the Prowler always seemed to be a death trap if you were caught by yourself.

I like seeing multiple sources in one spot. Which is why I go to Planetside-Universe for all my PS2 news, info and screenshots.

I hate TF2 for that exact reason. You go in there and play against people that have all these different weapons that you dont. Pretty much ruined it for me.

I hate TF2 for that exact reason. You go in there and play against people that have all these different weapons that you dont. Pretty much ruined it for me.

TF2 is not unbalanced. A skilled free player will beat a non-skilled premium player. Easy. Obviously a paying customer does have more goodies, and thus an edge, if both players are roughly on the same skill level.
