I called and got 10% off. Much easier than searching for hours for and having to have oral sex with a stranger for one

Heinrich, did you say anything in particular to get 10% off? I told the guy I subscribed to their email updates, but didn't get a coupon. He said, that's nice, perhaps you'll get one next month....

Heinrich, turn on your PM! :)

I told him that my friend in New York called me and told me about an unadvertised special. Didn't realize my pms were off

The price has gone back up to $529.95. I hope that they will honor what has been processed, but will not be surprised if they do not. Keep your fingers crossed.

Yes but I tried at least. Unfortunately I have NO email at all right now even though the rep said she was sending me a confirmation right away.

This is normal Dell BS. They are pulling this crap about once a week now. Advertise a highly sought after item relly cheap then pull the plug after numerous orders. I think they are doing this to show positives for wall street.

This deal was so hot. I hope it comes through.

For all you doubters about the quality of the monitor: I have one and it's awesome! Mine has NO dead pixels. I ordered another one during this deal. We'll see if it comes through. This is a rockin' price for a 17 inch, 16ms response LCD with DVI. It also has a pivot feature allowing you to turn the monitor on its stand to change the page from landscape to portrait (so you can see a full page of a word processing document all at once). Here is a review from GamePC which reaches a different conclusion than PC Magazine. While I ordinarily put a lot of stock in PC Magazine's recommendations, in this instance I am glad I followed GamePC instead.

PartialRecall...

Replacing a brand new monitor with a remanufactured monitor, is not quite what I would call the "Best In the Business". Read their fine print return policy on dead pixels.

No LCD should have dead pixels pop up in the first few weeks..... certainly not more than one at most.

I will continue to buy Samsung from now on.

I ordered around 4PM EST and got ack and confirmation with ship date within 2 hours - I think theywill honor it.

I got it just before they pulled it off. My order was confirmed with a supervisor cuz of the 10% discount. I'm not sure if they can still claim that it was a typographic error since the CSR and his supervisor has all the info on the price of the LCD before the order was processed.

Yep, I'm well aware of Planar's warranty. In the last few months I've deployed 85 Planar monitors at work. One had one dead pixel and another had 2 dead pixels. Both of these monitors had the dead pixel(s) right out of the box. Considering we had 83 other LCD's with zero dead pixels, that's pretty good. These are the PL-191M units. I'm not crazy about getting a refurb in exchange but that only happens after 30 days. Up until 30 days the monitor is replaced with a brand new unit, not refurb. If you're going to get a bunch of dead pixels, it's much more likely to happen in the first month rather than down the road. Like any other component, if it doesn't have problems in the first month, then it likely will never have problems.

The ads I see for Samsung LCD's state their warranty is Replacement or Refund for 8 or more dead pixels. Is this correct? I can't imagine having to live with an LCD that has 7 dead pixels. I'll go with Planar's 3 pixel warranty over Samsungs 8 pixel warranty anyday. <g>

This page on Samsung's website states 10 dead pixels should be acceptable. <ugh> http://www.samsung.com/myguide/hcom/hcom009.asp?it=ln_hcom/hcom001.asp&opf=

So hundreds, if not thousands, of us purchased this LCD over the weekend. Now conveniently there is a new LCD review on this site where they take a whole bunch of shots at the AO panel on the Planar PX171M, including calling it a step backward in LCD design. I smell conspiracy, Dell is paying them off to spread bad press and get us to cancel our LCD orders before they ship them out.

I am just kidding of course, but it's an interesting coincidence.

Uh...what makes you think their confirmation means anything?
People who jumped on Dimension 4600 got their confirmations.
People who jumped on Rio Karma got their confirmations, too.
Dell blamed the customers, claimed mistake, and cancelled all if not most orders.

You can only pray.
If their cost is about your purchase price, it just might get through.
