Hmm...this is interesting indeed. I have an 18" Planar and the 20" Dell 2000FP, and overall I think the color and picture is much better on the Planar (brighter, more vivid, etc.). No matter what I do I can't adjust the Dell to be as good looking. Maybe I should replace both with 2 of these.

Yeah, but that's pretty much standard right now. Just as a personal note I have been playing games on my Planar for 2 years and now the Dell and have never had a problem, as long as I play at the native resolution.

Geez...I'm thinking I really want two of these, but I'd have to dump my other ones first. Anyone want to buy them? :)

Only if you give 10% off the going market value and $35 off $400 discount as well :p

It's even cheaper now, since I heard the 10% coupon from Dell SB actually stacks in home divison. I know it works because I just bought the Dell 1901 for $494.19.

This is a really good deal. I have the 18.1" Planar which I used for about 2 years and it is AWESOME. I wanted something bigger, so two days ago, I purchased the Samsung 213t from Best Buy. I paid:

$1399 monitor
$ 100 service plan
$ 115 sales tax

$1614 sub total

LESS:
$100 MIR
$ 60 Rewards Zone rebate

$1454 Total

Obviously, the Planar 20.1" is a much better deal. Also, the color on my 18.1" Planar is much better than the Samsung 213t, unless I just haven't figured out how to adjust it properly yet.

Now, the question is -- Should I return the Samsung and buy this Planar? :)

Yep but it would be better if you could order the Planar from Dell, wait to receive it make sure that you like it then return your Samsung to Best Buy.

However Best Buy's return policy sucks and don't you have 14 days on computer stuff?

This is the Planar PL201M:

Image Brightness: 250 cd/m2
Image Contrast Ratio: 500:1

Compare this with the Planar PX191:

Image Brightness: 300 cd/m²
Image Contrast Ratio: 700:1

Seems like the 19" will have a better image.

Edit:

Ringing the PX191 up at Dell:

Sub-Total $749.00

Discounts -$74.90

Shipping $17.00

Shipping
Discount -$17.00

Tax1 $0.00

Total Price $674.10

Edit: Subtract $35 coupon (I found one through Google, thanks!), and it's $639.10!

Compare this to:

Original price $925.95
Auto 10% off (Dell Home & EPP) -$92.59
$35 off $400 coupon (Google!) -$35.00
Free shipping, no tax (at least to CA)

Final price $798.36

I have this LCD, it's awesome. :D

I haven't visually compared it to a 2000FP, but the specs for the PL201M seem a bit better; 500:1 vs 350:1, 250 cd/m2 vs 240cd/m2.

Mine had no dead pixels too :D

I don't see the 1900FP at Dell anymore, just the 1901FP. I think the PX191 is the better choice, based on my researches. However, there's not a lot out there. What I've seen indicates to me that the PX191 is better though.

When I bought my 1900FP almost half a year ago I don't believe the PX191 was an option or within my price range.

Fortunately I'm not that picky, just want analog/DVI, small bezel, looks good, and everything else like that. I'm not a gamer so refresh rates, etc. don't really matter to me.

Here's an awesome review of the 1900FP.

If I were to buy another LCD today I would consider the 1901FP, PX191, 2000FP and this PL201M.

Here's an awesome review of the 1900FP.

If I were to buy another LCD today I would consider the 1901FP, PX191, 2000FP and this PL201M.
The PX191 uses less than 1/2 the power of the PL201M (40 watts vs. 90 watts), has a far thinner bezel, supports rotation, doesn't have the 2w stereo speakers, weights 15.6 lb. compared to 22 lb. for the PL201M, costs around $140 less, has much better brightness and contrast ratio, has 90% of the screen real estate. The thread referred to above compares the 1900FP to the PL191M. However, the PX191 is a considerable improvement over the PL191M whereas the Samsung 192T and the Dell 1900FP (which is likely a rebadged 192T) are little improved from their predecessors (191T and 1900FP). These are all 25 ms response times LCDs. Later in the year, presumably, faster response times large LCDs will make their appearance. I guess if it's an issue for me, I'll game on my NEC FP2141BK 22" CRT, which I'll be running dual monitor with the PX191. My main focus is text, normally. This was the crux of my decision. Without being able to actually see the displays, use them and compare, I decided that I am less apt to be displeased using the PX191 for "browsing" than the PL201M. I certainly don't know this for a fact, but I do know that sometimes I have problems with my NEC FP2141 in this regard at 1600 x 1200 and that's why I typically use 1280 x 1024 with it. Many times there are remedies in applications by making font sizes larger, but in my experience not all the time. Thus, I use 1280 x 1024, the native resolution of the PX191.

Just submitted the order - $639.19 shipped to CA, PX191 Black.

I have it in my cart for ~$580 dollars using the stackable SB 10% coupon (I know it's a SB coupon, but it DOES stack with Dell home). Too bad I already jumped the gun and bought the Dell 1901 for $494 shipped. Question now is should I cancel the 1901FP and order the PX191 instead? Is it worth the extra $100?

What's an SB coupon? I had a 10% coupon but it turned out to be not stackable. I don't know if the difference is worth $100. I've never used a TFT other than the one on a Dell laptop. I'm just ordering by the seat of my pants, but that's nothing new. I typically do a lot of homework, but when I can I like to get help from knowledgable people by outlining my requirements. Buying an LCD without being able to use them is a little weird, but that's the way I've always bought monitors. I NEVER get to see them first, even though I live in Berkeley, CA, a stone's throw from San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Even if I can find the monitor on display (usually can't) it's not generally set up the way I would set it up. I rely on what people say and make my judgment based on my interpretation of what they say. Good luck!

SB is Dell Small Business. The coupon was sent out yesterday to people who subscribed to Dell emailing list. It was a coupon for 10% off entire order. Although it was sent through the Small Business division, apparently it works on either Home or Small Business. Its stackable with the $35 off coupon as well as the automatic 10%.

i just ordered an 1800FP for $385 after FATCASH :)

IMO it is a better deal than a 19" because 19" LCD are just 1" bigger with no upgrade in screen real estate
the screen size of the 19" monitor is roughly 11.4% bigger in size

the 1800fp has a thin bezel as well

if you were to get one I would go with a 20" that does 1600x1200 or a 17/18 with good specs
