Am I the only one who is completely oblivious to fashion trends? I don't own any, but I think the OP's examples look alright. I could see myself buying a pair, but not in response to any perceived in-ness of plaid shorts.
I normally don't care what people wear but if you're over the age of 16 you need to get slapped and grow up. I'm not sure what statement people are trying to make when they wear shit like that but I'm sure it's a shitty one.

Not reading 10 pages about plaid shorts that were posted in two days, but they've been "back" for a few years now. I bought a pair last year and two more this year. I like em.

I am all about buying nice jeans and nice clothes, but CasioTech, you sound like a complete douchebag trying to knock down Rock and Republics or Sevens.
I own both, as well as a pair of diesels and I personally like the 7FAM jeans the best because they are the most comfortable, not the most expensive.
Oh, and the Rock and Republic's get the most comments. The diesels get the least.

I agree with your wife. It's not so much ALL guys that look ridiculous in plaid shorts, more that MY husband would look ridiculous in plaid shorts -- or really ANY shorts for that matter. He sticks to jeans year round, regardless of the 100 degree weather.

Diesel outsells both brands COMBINED and is the only brand you will NOT find on massive clearance for 80% off at bloomingdales. You will be hard pressed to find any Diesel jeans for more than 30% off unless it's damaged, fake or extremely old cuts. SFMK get crotch blowouts within a few months and are only comfortable because they have a shit load of stretch (making the denim really shitty) and RR are made in sweatshops with paper thin denim. Don't get me started on True Religion urban ghetto wear. So yeah, try again!

But I don't give a crap about "fashion", I care about functionality. That's why I most likely won't own a pair of those plaid shorts, I don't have a use for them. I need protection, bike shorts, and something that I can double as swim trunks and light shorts, board shorts. Anything else fits under my shop jeans, which are falling apart, or pj pants for casual wear.
