Hah, this thread is still up after a day, but if you're going to make fun of my math, atleast be creative, as the public education jokes have been stated multiple times.

And I can't believe how many people have responded! 5 pages of responses with 30 messages per page, that's well over 600,000 responses!

This made me laugh, well played.

Can we lock this now?

Let's see, my computer in the sig idles @ 160w (yup, loads of hardware, 120mm fans, stacker crossflow fan, couple HDs, dvd-writer, neon lights, water pump etc)

Oct 2005, electric charges, 0.12790 KWH

To have the computer on 24/7,

0.16 KWH x $0.12790 x 24 hours = 0.491136 = 50 cents to keep it running a day.

and no I do not download stuff on this gaming computer, I have my download queue up in my laptop.

1.5GHz P-M, 1GB DDR, MR9700 consumes 15 watts idle (20 watts w/ LCD on),
and that would cost less than 5 cents to keep running 24 hours a day.

funny thing is that even when my gaming computer is completely turned off, it consumes 7-8 watts from the outlet whereis 15 watts can power a entirely functional computer.

People often use "the internet costs money" or "running the pc costs hydro" as an excuse as to why piracy does not pay, but that's stupid.

Wether or not you're downloading something, your still paying your regular internet fee, and your paying your hydro bills. So even if the math of the OP was correct, you still save money with piracy since you'd be paying that wether or not you downloaded the game.

Running a PC can't be too expensive on hydro either, people often think just because they have a 500W PSU that they use 500WPH but that's not true, like shown above. I have 3 machines runing 24/7, all at 100% CPU, and my parants have yet to mention anything about the hydro bill being high. I doubt PCs use that much compared to other things like a TV or even a light. Hard to imagine, but 2 100W light bulbs use more then your average PC, yep.

So my friend tells me he just got finished downloading the F.E.A.R game, and that it took him 4 days to finish it. Funny thing is, electricity around here is something like 5c an hour to run a computer, so lets see, 5cent/hour x 96 is 48$, Best Buy had the game on sale for 40$ this week, what a fool.

Your retarted. Comes to 4.80 dollars.
"Your retarted"? no, buddy, you're retarded.
